Off a busy pedestrian street near the Duomo, this welcoming, family-owned restaurant has an ultra contemporary look but is actually housed in a 14th-century medieval building with arched ceilings. The Martinelli family's own products, including balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and pasta, are used in their robustly flavored dishes, and you can also sample their well-regarded Montefalco wines.

The white vaulted rooms of Ristorante Maurizio (Via del Duomo 78; 0039 0763 341114, www.ristorantemaurizio.it), named after the bronze figure who rings the bell tower on the Duomo square, are the place for specialities including fabulous pasta stuffed with truffles and wild mushrooms. Around €35; closed Tuesdays.

A historic three generation family-run restaurant, inside a medieval building from the 1300's in the center of Orvieto, along the main street leading to the Cathedral. Large seating capacity, very welcoming thanks to the refined decor. It offers a traditional quality cuisine suitable for all palates.

10/08/2024: The courtesy, availability and preparation of the staff are the first thing that amazes. Excellent food, but I would give particular praise to the extra virgin olive oil they produce...
