What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Gino e Toto Sorbillo is celebrated for its exceptional Neapolitan pizzas, featuring fresh, organic ingredients and a delightful crust. While many rave about the incredible taste and fair prices, some diners have experienced long waits due to its popularity, and a few have noted minor issues with service efficiency and drinkware.
"As passionate home pizzaiolos with our own pizza oven, we thought we had a solid handle on Neapolitan pizza – until our first trip to Naples and our visit to Sorbillo.
This legendary spot had long been at the top of our list. Since they don’t take reservations, we came prepared to wait – but even with a long line, we were seated in just 30 minutes. And every minute was worth it.
We ordered two pizzas for three people, given their generous size – but after the first bite, we were genuinely moved. No exaggeration: happy tears were shed. The pizza was that good. Naturally, we ended up ordering a third one.
The service was warm, attentive, and impressively efficient given the constant rush. Prices are more than fair for the quality and experience.
Only one downside: drinks were served in plastic cups.
Team Sorbillo – this pizza planet deserves better. Please consider switching to sustainable tableware. A place serving pizza of this caliber should care just as much about the planet as it does about perfection on a plate.
Bottom line: Hands down the best Neapolitan pizza we've ever had. We’ll be back – no question."

"Honest review here. We really wanted and expected to be overwhelmed-but we weren't. I've been in Naples studying Italian and we saved Sorbillo for our last week. We arrived early at 5:30 pm on a Thursday and were seated immediately; however, we waited for 15 minutes for our server- he was particularly gruff until I spoke in Italian. The restaurant was not full at all. He was quite attentive afterwards. The house craft beer was good and I liked that it was served in large wine glasses, a bit of class. The prices are very reasonable and it is clear that they use quality ingredients -but, regardless, the pizzas were not sunshine or stars bursting in your mouth as so many reviews seem to suggest. Did we have high expectations, probably based on the reviews -could it have been an off night- maybe. I think the experience is one that many will seek because of the hype. I just wanted to throw out the possibility that it might just be hype. I don't think it would have been worth a long wait for a table."

"We luvluckuvvvvvvvv this place-
just as anazing as it was 3 years ago-
take their local Prosecco, it's fabulos!
We've tried their Margherita, Diabola and Tuna and onion- all impeccable, sunshine and stars bursting in your mouth!
The atmosphere is something else-
you can see people of different wlages and paths of life- happy with their food.
The place ALWAYS has a line,
but it moves fast and is TOTALLYYYYT worth the visit. Thank you for being consistent in the quality of food and service you provide throughout the years!
The waiting staff-
amazingly amiable, helpful and supernice.
They make this place SPECIAL,
we'll be back! 🤍"

The 10 Best Restaurants In Naples
Nowadays, pizza can be found nearly in every corner of the world, but the original, authentic pizza was born here in Naples, and this is still the city to come to for the best pizza in the entire world. Famed pizzeria Sorbillo offers some of the tastiest pizzas in town, traditionally baked in wood-fired ovens, larger than the plate it is served on and so thin that it melts irresistibly into your mouth. The variety of pizzas on offer is such that it will satisfy any palate, however every option features only ingredients typical of Italy’s gastronomy.
The 15 best things to do in Naples
The delicious aroma of freshly baked dough wafts through the air in Naples, the birthplace of pizza. Naples resident Raffaele Esposito is often credited with creating the first pizza margherita to commemorate the 1889 visit of Italian queen of the same name – though local street vendors had been peddling wood-oven-baked flatbreads with toppings long before then. Pizzeria Gino Sorbillo is one of the best in the city, thanks to its focus on organic ingredients and local produce from the surrounding Campania region.
Restaurants in Naples
There are a few restaurants called Sorbillo along Via dei Tribunali, but this one is world-renowned. Order the same thing the locals do, namely a basic Neapolitan pizza (try the unique pizza al pesto or the stunningly simple marinara, with just San Marzano tomatoes, wild garlic, and oregano) that's cooked to perfection by the third generation of pie makers who run the place. The pizzas are enormous, flopping over the edge of the plate onto the white marble tabletops.

But a slew of top-notch trattorias, osterias and ristoranti exist right alongside pizza titans like Sorbillo and Da Michele. Drawing on the cornucopia of livestock and produce from the fertile fields and coastal waters of the Campania region — cattle, goats, shellfish, wheat, artichokes, zucchini, figs, citrus fruits and more — these eateries dish out local inventions from mussel soup to homegrown pastas to limoncello.
13 Best Pizzerias in Naples, Picked By Locals
The excitable crowd of hungry guests lining up outside Sorbillo may make you think twice, but relax: put your name down, grab a spritz from the tiny kiosk next door and chat away as you wait. Because this pizza’s well worth hanging around for. Inside, a warm, cosy interior awaits – alongside some of the best pies in town.

A few places to make a note of on and just off Via Trinbunali are the excellent little deli Alimentari Coscia (maps), design shop Interno Napoletano (maps), Gino e Toto Sorbillo (maps) and Antica Pizzeria Di Matteo for pizzas (maps), whilst you'll also find the entrances to a couple of the Underground tunnels, and Pio Monte della Misericordia (maps). If you're peckish, it's an ideal spot to grab a pizza a portafoglio, literally a “wallet” pizza that's smaller and thinner than your normal restaurant one, and folded in four to eat on the go.

We couldn’t possibly recommend one over the other, however for the view choose Lievito Madre by Sorbillo (as it is located right on the seaside with stunning views over the Castel dell’Ovo and the whole arc of the bay, perfect for people watching); for the historical significance visit Michele alla Ferrovia (prepare to queue); for the view go to Reginella on Via Posillipo (breathtaking views over the bay) or for the trendy experience go to Fratelli Salvo von Riviera di Chiaia.

You simply cannot go to Naples and not have a slice (or five!) of the well-beloved Neapolitan pizza and some would argue that the best placeto get is at Sorbillo. Located in Via dei Tribunali, which is known for its abundance of pizzerias, Sorbillo is a no-frills pizzeria with a cult-like following. The street-front stall is run by legendary pizza-maker Gino Sorbillo, whose reputation goes beyond just his pizza-making skills.

Whereas Da Michele is a bit off the beaten track, Gino Sorbillo is more centrally located in the city; in fact, it is in the Decumani, an area which I recommend visiting in the Introduction to the city of Napoli post. I like Sorbillo because of the focus on quality and specifically ingredienti biologici (organic). The wait can be pretty long here too as Sorbillo has certainly secured a place as one of the best in Naples.

If there’s one name that comes up again and again when talking about Naples’ best pizza, it’s Sorbillo. Pizzeria Gino e Toto Sorbillo is one of the city’s most famous institutions, known for its impossibly thin, perfectly charred dough and high-quality, organic ingredients. This place is all about tradition but with a slightly more polished, modern feel compared to the old-school legends like Da Michele.
Eating Pizza in Naples
If Neapolitan pizza is enjoying its place in the press at the moment, much of that has to do with the media savy Gino Sorbillo. He took what was arguably one of the best and well known of the old fashioned pizzerias in Naples and turned it into a phenomena. It was basically Gino who changed the view that a pizza was some sort of third rate street food and taken it to be regarded as high level cuisine.

Sorbillo is arguably Naples’ most popular pizzeria and a long line begins to form an hour before opening for each lunch and dinner shift. I did end up trying Sorbillo and Da Michele (the place Julia Roberts swooned over her margherita), but both disappointed.
