Reviews Summary
Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba is celebrated for its historical significance as the world's oldest pizzeria and its authentic Neapolitan pizzas, often described as delicious with perfect dough. While many rave about the food, some diners have experienced inconsistencies in service and found the ambiance less inviting than expected, with occasional issues regarding pizza temperature and street-level distractions.
"If you’re in Naples and love pizza, stopping by Antica Pizzeria Port’Alba is an absolute must. Known as the oldest pizzeria in the world, dating back to 1738, this spot is steeped in history and tradition. Walking through the ancient city gates of Port’Alba, you step into a place where pizza as we know it was perfected.
The moment you arrive, you’re greeted by the unmistakable buzz of locals and tourists alike, all drawn in by the promise of authentic Neapolitan pizza. The margherita here is perfection—thin, slightly chewy, and blistered just right from the wood-fired oven. The tomato sauce is vibrant and fresh, the mozzarella melts beautifully, and the basil adds just the right touch.
Beyond the food, the atmosphere is lively and full of character. It’s the kind of place where you can feel the centuries of history while enjoying something as simple yet profound as a perfect slice of pizza. Whether you’re a history lover, a foodie, or just someone looking for a fantastic meal in Naples, Antica Pizzeria Port’Alba is well worth a visit."

"Food - Neapolitan style pizza done right. Pizza was fantastic and I enjoyed every single bite. The crust was super thin but not as fluffy as I expected it to be but it was still lovely. The toppings were all super fresh and the sauce was exactly how it should be just tomato. We did have one pizza that we did not like but that was something we ordered outside of our comfort zone so it is what it is.
Service - Fast friendly service that was welcoming with a great sense of humor.
Atmosphere - Great quiet atmosphere to enjoy some amazing pizza with my family.
Overall I felt this was a great experience with amazing food at the place that started it all. Make sure you try the arranchini while you're there it's fantastic."

"Oops…Not the Best Pizza I’ve Ever Had
We visited the place without a reservation around 6 in the evening. We tried to request a table for two inside, but only outdoor seating was available.
We ordered two pizzas and a side; the portion sizes were generous. However, there was too much moisture in my pizza, and the bottom was burnt, which created a bitter taste.
While the outdoor seating allowed us to experience the authentic Neapolitan vibe, the environment wasn't very pleasant due to the smells and flies from the street.
I had high expectations for this place, but it turned out to be a pass for me. I do not recommend it, and I will not revisit this restaurant again."

With an impressive claim to fame as Naples’ – and perhaps the world’s – first pizzeria, Antica Pizzeria Port’Alba has been doling out pies since 1738 and it still does a lively trade today. This old-school pizzeria also has a convincing claim to having invented pizza a portafoglio – wallet pizza – folded into neat quarters, wrapped in paper and served through the window to eat on the hoof.

Lunchtimes or early evenings are the best times for a street food crawl; take it slowly and taste as much as you can.
Restaurants in Naples, Italy
This place, located across from Piazza Bellini and underneath the archway leading to the street connecting to Piazza Dante was somewhere we ended up eating twice and having vastly different service experiences each time, though the food was consistently good. We ended up here on our first night in Naples with me, jetlagged and ticked off because I’d forgotten to print out my researched list of restaurants and no way to access the info without working internet. We wandered around the area, looking at menus, searching for something which appealed and wasn’t too touristy.
Where To Find The Best Pizza In Naples
Pizzeria Port’Alba is one of the oldest pizzerias in the city but for some reason, it’s not talked about to death in guidebooks and blog posts. Maybe because it isn’t a sexy spot, or maybe because the pies are €1-2 more than they should be, but the pizza here is really, really good. It’s also open all day, every day making it a great place to get your pizza fix on Sundays when most good establishments are closed.
