Since 2014, the Michelin-starred fish restaurant, whose name translates to “anchovy,” has made its home on a second-floor space inside Eataly’s teeming emporium of Italian delicacies. Inside the restaurant, serenity reigns, with sloping glass walls that look down on a piazza below inducing the woozy, soothing impression of being aboard a boat in central Milan.

Peck (Via Spadari 9; tel. 02/802-3161) is still the number-one gourmet spot, although competition is keen from the Eataly megastore in Piazza XXV Aprile (www.eataly.it) for all Italian comestibles. The top floor of the La Rinascente department store in Piazza del Duomo is another haven for foodies, with its Obika mozzarella bar and fine selection of packaged Italian goods (as an added bonus, you get a close-up view of the Duomo). Opened in 2015, the Mercato del Duomo (www.ilmercatodelduomo.it; tel. 02/8633-1924) in Piazza del Duomo aims to be a “gourmet cathedral” directly across from the actual cathedral.

Long before Eataly came on the scene in 2002, Peck was devoted to buying the best and the most sustainable ingredients from small producers, farmers and ranchers. Privately owned, Peck does not disclose its total sales, but while their on-line business, started during the pandemic years and is growing annually, most customers— about 30% of Peck’s clientele is foreign—prefer going to the shop as much for the experience of wandering the beautiful floors of foods and to buy the same exact jams or pastries that have for decades.

Eataly is a huge food market focused on the “Italian way of indulging at the table.” The goal is to make high-quality Italian products easily accessible at affordable prices. Italy Smeraldo was opened a couple of years ago, after renovating a former music theater in the heart of Corso Como – Porta Nuova district. Here you can find in a single place the best Italian gourmet food and this would be enough to justify a visit.

In Turin, just outside the "Lingotto" (a former car factory now converted in a mall) there is "Eataly", a big (and expensive) food market that focuses on quality food; downstairs there is the wine and beer market and there you will find a lot of bottles from italian microbreweries!. Unfortunately italian micros almost only use 0,75 L bottles so they may add much weight to your baggage. And they are extremely pricey.

It’s a huge Italian food market with restaurants, cafes, and shops. You can find pretty much anything Italian here, from pasta to cheese to wine. They have 40 locations around the world, I have been to 6 of the locations including Milan, so if you have a chance to see this market, I recommend stopping by.

Within the multi-story grocery store, restaurant, bar, and cultural center that is Eataly Milan, there is a nice little cafe where you can set up shop and work from. On the ground floor, you will find the cafe, feel free to plug in and connect to their highspeed internet.

It is a chain of huge food halls with quality Italian food, including food and beverage counters, bakery, several restaurants and retail items. It is a pleasant place both for eating and finding some exquisite gourmet specialities typical for Italy.
