"I don't even know where to start. The best meal I've had in Italy. Oldschool dishes. Everything is at top level - just as it's supposed to be. Like your Italian grandma's dream dinner."

"The food is just amazing, tradicional Milanese food as good it can be.
This restaurant was recommended, and we wanted to try some authentic Milanese food.
We started with the thick cut of salame (tollone di salame della casa), it was so soft that you could spread on the bread.
Then we has the polenta with Gorgonzola (Tortino bollente di Gorgonzola). Thus thing... it is amazing!! The piping hot dish creates a crust where the polenta and the Gorgonzola fuses together making that one of the best dishes of my life.
For mains, I've ordered the ossobuco (Ossobuco in gremolada con risotto) the risotto was everything right. Creamy, al dente, tasty. The ossobuco was perfect, could cut with a spoon, the bone marrow could be accessed by a special spoon. The juice of the cooking was pure collagen. Just perfect.
My wife had the tortellini with pumpkin, was very light and very well balanced flavours.
The portions were massive, we stopped before the dessert."

Where to get 8 (great) plates of risotto in Milan
Another traditional trattoria, Al Matarel has been run by the affable Nonna Elide since 1962. Its pride and joy is its osso buco - a secret family recipe that hasn’t changed with the generations and is roasted and broiled for more than three hours before being served with a heaping of saffron risotto. Melt in the mouth tender and surrounded by a sea of buttery rice, this dish should always - as the restaurant’s owners recommend - be followed by a walk through Milan’s historic centre and a glass of good grappa (a strong Italian liquor made from distilled grapes).

Any of the pastas are delicious, although they are known for their delicate stuffed tortellini, and of course they have a top-of-the-line osso buco.
