Service - incredible. Food - amazing. Several unique dishes that we have not tasted before - across all 20 days or so around Italy over the last two trips. Go with the recommendations, the menu is difficult to read but the suggestions are spot on.

Anyone who has been to Trattoria da Ubaldo knows it’s an experience you don’t soon forget. I sometimes wonder how bland the gregarious owner Ubaldo must think the universe is outside of his restaurant. As he dresses every day in his signature skeleton suit, slips behind the wheel of his shiny Bentley, and looks out over the skull head on his dashboard.

This is another popular restaurant in Lucca which we were lucky to get into. There are less spaces outside for seating than other restaurants but actually it is all about the inside at this trattoria. It is so randomly decorated with quirky paintings, toys and paraphernalia – we loved it!
