This stylishly retro osteria on the Oltrarno side of Ponte alla Carraia – all dark wood paneling and ceiling vaults – is ever popular with locals and clued-in tourists. It's surprisingly gourmet for what looks, at first sight, like a bohemian drinking den, with a menu that is committed to carefully-sourced, healthy seasonal produce. There are veggie soups and salads, sure, but there are also flourishes such as buckwheat tagliolini with pheasant breast and candied fennel.

One of those rare, uber-fashionable addresses that hasn't lost an ounce of its epicurean sass since opening in 2002, Oltrarno's The Holy Drinker consistently delivers brilliantly creative Tuscan cuisine in a vaulted candlelit space. Pasta is handmade, specialty breads and sublime focaccia come fresh from its own artisanal bakery, and the wine list celebrates boutique Tuscan vintages. Reservations are essential.

Il Santo Bevitore, the parent company of S.Forno and Il Santino, is a Michelin guide book restaurant in the San Frediano neighborhood Oltarno serving up innovative twists on classic Italian fare. I suggest IL Santo Bevitore if you are looking to have an intimate tête-à-tête with someone, be it a friend, lover or family member. The ambiance is warm, the wine list is extensive and the food is a nice refresher from all the classic plates of pasta in Florence (although they do have pasta on the menu).

Combining a beautiful interior, white tablecloths, and surprisingly affordable prices, this is the place to come when home-style, typical Tuscan dishes sound wonderful. Offering both a hearty meal and an interior meant to impress, it's easy to feel surprisingly comfortable here--the perfect spot to take someone you've just met or a new relationship on a first holiday. They serve excellent pizzas and meat options here, so if you're sick of pasta you will have plenty of other dishes to choose from.

Il Santo Bevitore is something in between a restaurant and a trattoria: dark wood wainscoting, long shelves crammed with wine bottles, vaulted ceilings and a friendly welcome. You look around and see local families, young people nicely dressed for the Sunday lunch and older couples, locals that know the menu by heart and curious tourists who enjoy the relaxed, convivial atmosphere. Our 2-year-old Livia was made to feel at home by the friendly waiters and waitresses, they were very kind.

Il Santo Bevitore is well known to both Florentines and the many expats who populate the city. It’s hard to understand how Il Santo Bevitore manages to create contemporary Tuscan dishes, present them so well and do it all for reasonable prices, but I am happy they do!. This little gem also has a great atmosphere which makes it a fantastic spot for a group of friends to have dinner and drinks in Santo Spirito!

Service is informal, even laid-back, but they take the ingredients that make up their refreshingly modern take on Tuscan food very seriously indeed. The wine list is one of the best in town.

This must be one of the best restaurants in Florence, if you enjoy good food in relaxed but elegant surroundings.

Santo Bevitore is a favorite among locals so you need to make a reservation. Simple Tuscan classics mix it up with hearty second courses of proteins like duck. The wine list, both by the glass and the bottle, is great with much depth in Chianti Classico and lesser-known Italian wines.

BEST FOR: Traditional with a twist, lively atmosphere, simple but extraordinary. Most atmospheric at dinner. This is the kind of restaurant that you peer into when walking past and all you want is to be inside.

In one of the most elegant streets of the city, “il Santo” has been offering modern cuisine tied to tradition for over 20 years. Young and cheerful atmosphere. A point of reference for Florentines too.

What used to be a former coach house is now a bustling restaurant in Florence. Il Santo Bevitore, translated in English as “The Holy Drinker,” is known for its slow food and great wine.

Side note —> They’re the same owners as Il Santo Bevitore—the drinking saint—which is next door and one of my favorite restaurants in Florence. They have amazing pasta and scallops.

After years of 7-day weeks and 18-hour days, Angelo needed time beyond the business, so the local restaurant powerhouse, the team behind Il Santo Bevitore, came to the rescue.

They are by far the best stop for bread, panini, cakes in a very interestedly high-vaulted ceiling bistro, by the visionaries of Il Santo Bevitore.

You can get an excellent pici at many places, including with fried breadcrumbs at Osteria De' Pazzi and with ragu at Il Santo Bevitore.
