What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners rave about Ristorante Cusina e Butega for its authentic Emilia-Romagna cuisine, particularly highlighting regional specialties like cappellacci di zucca. The atmosphere is described as family-friendly and modern, though some found the service a bit rushed. Portions are generous, making it ideal for sharing.
"When you visit Cusina e Butega in the heart of Ferrara, don’t miss the chance to try their exquisite Filetto di branzino in crosta di mandorle con verdure di stagione.
This dish is a perfect blend of Mediterranean freshness and the refined craftsmanship of Italian cuisine. The branzino is expertly prepared, its tender fillet encased in a crisp almond crust. Each bite offers a delightful contrast of textures—crunchy on the outside, moist and delicate on the inside. Paired with a colorful assortment of seasonal vegetables, the dish is both visually appealing and naturally flavorful, adding a refreshing balance to the plate."

"Spacious family-friendly restaurant in the heart of the city. The menu comprises traditional local dishes, with a large choice of cold cuts and cheeses. The service was professional but a bit rushed. The food was allright."
Iztok Gregori
"Excellent place not to be missed. Not cheap depending on what you eat (was not clear with salumi and formaggi charging nearly 40 EUR for a plate - see photo) but I would definitely go back again. All food was prepared with attention and all the salumi were freshly cut."

In fact, in addition to being able to taste rich and flavorful dishes of a genuine traditional matrix, you can buy fresh pasta, selected foodstuffs, many typical products, and ready-made gastronomy preparations, a great convenience for those who have no time or desire to cook. The menu repertoire is extensive; it is almost superfluous to say that cappellacci are always present, both with ragù and with butter and sage. The same goes for cured meats, cappelletti, lasagna, salama da sugo with mashed potatoes, tripe with Parmesan polenta.

For regional specialities in a bright, modern setting, make sure to head for Cusina e Butega: a restaurant offering the best of Emilia-Romagna’s gastronomy. You cannot leave Ferrara without sampling their infamous cappellacci di zucca al ragù – a filled pasta stuffed with pumpkins, served with a Bolognese sauce. After dinner, make your way towards Via Carlo Mayr: a narrow street flanked by terracotta buildings housing a thread of low-lit cocktail bars such as vibrant LUX Gin & Wine and upmarket Apelle.
Fabulous Ferrara - Italian UNESCO district Part 2 - Cooksister
Sightseeing is hungry work, and soon we found ourselves heading for Cusina e Butega, one of the many restaurants near the basilica, for lunch. With difficulty, we persuaded ourselves to walk past the deli counter with its tempting array of mortadellas, salamis, sliced Prosciutto & chunks of Parmigiano Reggiano and soon we were being served a set lunch to show off some regional dishes and ingredients. We started with crumbed fried fillets of local fish served with a rich tomato concasse.
