The core of FUD- Bottega Sicula is the street food concept – not only Sicilian street food but also American fare, translated into a totally Sicilian concept. Think of a classic American burger: at Fud, it becomes a Sicilian burger with local meat, fish, local vegetables and cheese. Their hamburger is made with Modica beef and Madonie cheese, Nebrodi black pork sausage and Ragusa provola while the kebab is made with chicken from Modica.

FUD comes from combining the word food and sud which is Italian for South; thus, FUD was created to mean Southern Italian cuisine. While Southern Italian cuisine is the staple of this restaurant, they also serve barbeque and Mediterranean dishes, making it a fun and interesting place to stop for brunch. The fun menu can be a bit confusing as they like to combine words to make new and rather unusual words to describe their dishes.

A very iconic and innovative culinary experience in Catania is represented by FUD (read it as “food”). The concept behind this project is to offer a modern and fun “fast food” inspired cuisine but using only great locally-sourced ingredients. Fud definitely speaks burgers well, burgers with buns that make it through the whole thing. We tested the bread through a blue cheese burger; a buffalo burger; an eggplant, zucchini, goat cheese and mint concoction; and even a gooey eggplant parmigiana version. The gorgonzola and pear salad received high marks from both of us.

FUD – FUD’s food is as eclectic as their atmosphere and branding–the restaurant’s tagline is “You can’t live on horse meat alone,” and all of the dishes on their menu are spelled phonetically, like their name. FUD was the restaurant where we’ve stopped to eat for the first time, right in the heart of Palermo. Not to mention, we got there without any big expectation. At that time, we were searching for a close, cozy place to wait until we could check in into our super cute Airbnb studio.

The first night at Curtigghiu for some delicious pizza and the second night at FUD for burgers. We saw the burgers being ordered while we were sitting outside on night one which is what made us come back again. We were NOT disappointed!

FUD è una vera e propria bottega dove scoprire e gustare i veri sapori siciliani. Il perfetto incontro tra tradizione e innovazione. Consigliatissimi i Burger (ma non sottovalutate la loro pizza) e la cheesecake.

Unfortunately, you can’t make a reservation here and it is always busy. However, it is definitely worth waiting a while over here. At FUD you have delicious burgers and loaded fries for a good price.
