Reviews Summary

A Putia Do Calabrisi is celebrated for its authentic, homemade Sicilian cuisine offered at exceptional value. Diners rave about the warm, family-like atmosphere and the incredibly friendly service that makes everyone feel welcome. While the location might be a bit off the beaten path, the experience of dining with locals and enjoying traditional dishes at such affordable prices makes it a must-visit.

"Probably the best value for money in Catania. 12 euros for homemade Sicilian food at a 100-year old restaurant. Very local and run by lovely people who made us feel at home. They offered fresh fish, calamari, stewed beef and basic but delicious pasta. The only con is the area (we walked 25min around a slightly dodgy area). Worth that wander though!"

"Puta do Calabrisi – A Hidden Gem in Catania

A true local spot with a warm, down-to-earth vibe. The food was excellent — homemade, hearty and full of flavor. I had a variety of dishes from pasta al forno to grilled swordfish, and everything tasted fresh and well-seasoned. Even the antipasti and desserts were delicious. On top of that, the prices were incredibly affordable, especially for the quality and portions you get. If you’re in Catania and want a no-frills, authentic Sicilian experience, this is the place. Highly recommend!"

"We stopped at A Putìa do Calabrisi for lunch — and it felt like traveling back in time! This place is a treasure — like stepping into a piece of Calabrese history, full of charm, character, and warmth.

The food was fantastic, the beer ice-cold, and the service was incredible. The two sisters who run the place are absolutely amazing — fun, welcoming, and full of stories. The whole restaurant is covered in photos and memories, which gives it such a unique and cozy vibe.

And the best part? The prices are super fair! Easily one of our favorite places in Catania — authentic, delicious, and full of heart. A must-visit!"

A Local's Guide to 10 of Sicily's Best Restaurants

An iconic part of Catania's dining culture, this casual eatery has been a beloved spot of locals for decades, and remarkably, it has remained mostly unchanged over the years. Situated in an old district that requires a bit of a trek from the city center, Putia do Calabrisi preserves traditional Catania cuisine without making a point of it. While many restaurants in the city and all over Italy are rushing to adopt new trends, the timelessness and lack of pretense here are a total breath of fresh air.

Catania in a day - Rick Steves Travel Forum

My favorite dining experience in my travels was at A Putia Do Calabrisi in Catania. It's South (near Acquicella Station) and they seat by seats, not tables. You just make yourself visible by the door until someone's mamma points at you and tells you where to sit.

Where to eat in Catania like a local!

Definetely our favorite place in Catania away of the city center. If the question is Where to eat in Catania like a REAL local, the answer is “A Putia Do Calabrisi”. It’s actually an Osteria with wine barrels and all the rest.
