What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Ristorante I Portici offers a sophisticated dining experience in a unique former theater setting, lauded for its elegant atmosphere and creative Emilian-inspired cuisine. While many praise the attentive service and innovative dishes, some reviews mention a lack of 'wow' factor and occasional flavor imbalances, with one diner noting a disappointing wine pairing.
"We didn’t stay at the hotel, just came for the food — and it was a wonderful experience! A couple of the dishes were unusual for us, yet surprisingly delicious. The service was elegant and perfectly timed, making the whole evening absolutely worth it. My only recommendation would be to make the pasta dishes smaller, because they made the experience quite filling"

"A Huge Disappointment – Not Up to Michelin Standards
We visited this restaurant with high expectations and were excited for a 7-course menu with wine pairings. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing Michelin experiences we’ve ever had. While the dishes were beautifully presented, the flavor combinations were outright unsuccessful. The entire menu was marked by an overwhelming use of smoky elements, which dominated and became monotonous across almost every dish.
Out of the seven courses, there was only one we actually finished. We left the rest uneaten, despite the small portions—not because we were full, but because the food simply wasn’t enjoyable. The most memorable parts of the meal were the snacks served beforehand: a puffed chip and a lemon sorbet, which were well-balanced and tasty. But it says a lot when the snacks are the highlight of a Michelin menu.
The wine pairing was also disappointing. One of the "wines" turned out to be a beer, which—while creative in concept—was a complete misstep. The beer had an intense smell of cow urine (not just the barnyard notes one might encounter in some natural wines). The waiter laughed and acknowledged that the beer had a peculiar flavor, which seemed to be part of the intended experience or a gimmick. Unfortunately, this did nothing to improve the situation, and we were left with an unusually unpleasant taste experience without being offered an alternative.
We expected a world-class meal but left the restaurant feeling both disappointed and frustrated. If this is the standard they are presenting, it’s hard to see how they can retain their Michelin star."

"I had the best experience of food, service and atmosphere at this local . The best dishe I have ever had was Risone. Absolutely amazing. The main course (beef) was really unique. The creativity was super high. I had experienced a lot of new flavors.
Last but not least thanks to waiters and managers for their perfect service and this special experience."

The frescoed ceiling, parquet flooring, and live classical music are clues that this sophisticated restaurant (part of the hotel of the same name) occupies a former theater and café-chantant, or musical venue, from the late 19th century. It's the perfect setting for an evening of fine dining featuring mainly Emilian-inspired dishes with modern touches and the vision of chef Nicola Annunziata. The menus change seasonally, and four separate dinner tasting menus offer gustatory bliss.
