In the splendid setting of the historic center of Bellagio, bordering the botanical gardens of Villa Melzi d’Eril, the restaurant “Alle Darsene di Loppia” is a pleasant and welcoming place where you can taste seasonal menus and attentive to the quality of the basic products. The restaurant is located in an extremely pleasant position, especially during the summer, when you can stop outside at one of the tables under the pergola, set up right on the edge of the Loppia harbor. Here you can taste the local dishes, divided between land and fish, from the lake and the sea, among the specialties: homemade cavatelli and shellfish soup; red prawns, purple potato purée and Franciacorta wine sauce; seared scallops with pumpkin cream and black truffle; swordfish carpaccio, olives, capers and candied tomatoes; spaghetti from Gragnano, fresh spring onion, caviar and sour cream; fusilli with cauliflower cream and smoked eel; fried lake fish with vegetables and extra virgin olive oil; fruit salad au gratin with cherry zabaglione.

With a vine-covered terrace right next to the harbour in Loppia, this is a stunning and quiet spot away from the main town. The service is really attentive and the food is a great mix of seafood, lake fish and meat. We couldn’t resist the fish side of the menu, with swordfish carpaccio and roasted octopus to start, followed by home-made salt cod ravioli with fresh tomato and homemade cavatelli pasta (looks like little shells) in a shellfish broth….yum.

Bellagio is rightfully considered one of the gems of Lake Como, if not its most beautiful village. If the crowds of tourists don’t discourage you (or if you happen to be there off-season), book a table at the Darsene di Loppia: the terrace overlooking the lake, sided by tiny boats moored along the shore, is one of the most picturesque of the area. The menu, needless to say, offers a great contemporary and creative take on traditional Italian cuisine.

Alle Darsene di Loppia: Unlike Al Veluu and Salice Blu, Alle Darsene di Loppia was a new find for us. (Darsene means docks, and Loppia is a small onetime fishing hamlet that exemplifies quaint.) It’s the easiest to get to: a 20-minute walk along the Como lakefront and through the gorgeous gardens of the Villa Melzi. The garden-walk costs €6 all day, or you can detour around it along a busy road.

These are Silvio’s (if you book in the name of Barbara from Villa Ponti Bellavista, they will give you their best table available), Salice Blu (no view but the cook was a celebrity chef on TV for some years), Darsena di Loppia, in a charming cove with boats moored there and La Punta at the end of Bellagio at its farthest point, with a gorgeous view and many outside tables.

Alle Darsene di Loppia is a beautiful little restaurant located in a small fishing village called Loppia. This lovely eating place is only a 15-minute walk away from Bellagio, so you won’t walk far from the town center. It has a nice outdoor seating area under the pergola and an elegant interior with comfortable chairs and lots of space between tables.

From its lake terrace, you can enjoy superb sea, lake and land menus, while drinking excellent wines. Of course, the courses for vegetarians and for people who suffer from celiac diseases are guaranteed.

When you visit the town of Bellagio on Lake Como, it’s easy to see why it inspired an entire hotel and casino in Las Vegas. The dramatic location on the point of land where Lake Como forks is stunning. The best restaurant is not in the heart of town, it’s about a mile walk just behind the neoclassical Villa Melzi.

Worst experience of our 10 day stay in Italy and honestly worst experience we’ve ever had in Europe. There was no parking near the restaurant so we had to park a half kilometer away. It was down-pouring during our walk to the restaurant and the streets were backing up with sewage.

The restaurant “Alle Darsene” is on the West side lake of Bellagio in the hamlet of Loppia. The dehor is between the little harbour and the Villa Melzi Garden. Here you can enjoy a sophisticated cusine in a calm atmosphere.

They remembered my gluten allergy I had mentioned when booking and were very knowledgeable about this and kind. We were treated with great respect and care by restaurant staff and the food was delicious.
