What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Polentoteca Chalet Gabriele is celebrated for its breathtaking views of Lake Como and its authentic, hearty Alpine cuisine, particularly its signature polenta dishes. Diners praise the warm, family-run hospitality and the unique 'Toc' tradition. While generally positive, some reviews mention occasional disturbances from other guests' children or dogs.
"We were on vacation in Italy and stopped in to this delightful restaurant between Italian lunch and Italian dinner because we're dumb Americans. The hostess told us the kitchen was closed but they could accommodate us with a "limited" menu. They still were able to make like 90% of the menu for us and everything we had was amazing. Definitely try the polenta and cheese squares (I forget what they're actually called). The staff were so nice and the views from the terrace as well as the dining room are simply breathtaking! 6/5 stars just amazing!"

"The history of the place stands out with the ancient mountain decor. Despite being busy the place is family run and has a homely feel with an extensive menu with warm mountain food to suit the hospitality. There is an open terrace upstairs for people to sit for a cold beer in the sun or a warm downstairs dining area with fantastic service. The rooms are cosy and have one of the most beautiful views from their balconies. Worth every cent. Easy access to Lecco down beautiful winding roads."

"Our favorite experience at entire Lake Como vacation! Little bit disappointed with mass tourism at Bellagio and commercialized food quality. We drove up the hills and fount this amazing place. Entire family is so happy! Fresh air, good views and amazing home made meals!"

Plunge into die-hard peasant food traditions at this low-key stone-wooden mountain hut in the hamlet of Piano Rancio in the lake’s wilderness. The main dish is Toc, which is more of an eating ritual: guests are served a huge communal copper cauldron of cornmeal mush polenta with missoltini lake shads, homegrown hens and salami, placed in the centre of the table. They’re invited to eat with their bare hands as in past hard times when low-income families shared one meal a day.
