While pristine and polished - I suspect those gleaming lemons on the trees might have been shined up that morning - the hotel is relaxed rather than mannered; light, airy spaces filled with both historic and contemporary artworks, neutral coffee and stone tones courtesy of Loro Piana fabrics and a terrace restaurant, L’Olivo, that’s like being in a particularly tasteful Italian familia casa, albeit one with views of the muralled pool and two Michelin stars.

The Hotel Capri Palace has been a fine dining destination since it opened, and has been awarded two Michelin stars for its gourmet dishes over the years. The head chef today is the young Andrea Migliaccio, originally from the nearby island of Ischia but with experience introducing traditional southern Italian cuisine to diners across the globe. Our hotel also happens to house two Michelin-starred restaurants, one of them being the stunning L’Olivo where we spent a couple of our most delicious nights on the trip. It’s elegant without being fussy, and some of the best people-watching on the island. Adam and I shared everything since we couldn’t decide between the pasta and the crunchy lobster—and we had to save room for the candy cart that circulated at the end of the evening.

Our room had beautiful views of the sea and we were located a few floors above the Michelin Star restaurant, L’Olivo, so we got serenaded by beautiful piano music every morning. Another delight was that our room was huge, had great storage, and we had water views from the shower. This is not always the case for European hotels, but we felt like we had an apartment within a luxury hotel.

If you’re hungry, we suggest Trattoria il Solitario, a family-run restaurant serving traditional homemade cuisine in a beautiful hidden garden; Il Riccio, which serves a Michelin-starred seafood menu atop a cliff overlooking the Blue Grotto; or L’Olivo, that has earned two Michelin stars for its innovative reimagining of classic Capri dishes. Anacapri restaurants will not disappoint!
