Cafe Kadosh – I cannot deny that they make delicious sufganiyot but I do not believe that they are good enough to wait in line for or deal with the rude service that comes with it. Flavors include date and nougat cream, passionfruit, cassis, lychee, and chestnut (are they copying Gourmandises?)

But the prize for best sufganiyot, year after year, goes to Kadosh, a bakery and café in downtown Jerusalem. These are donuts worth traveling for: the dough is sweet and light with a hint of orange and vanilla and the fillings cascade out of the donut. Hands down, the crème caramel is the best.

When I asked recently about brunch, the clear forerunner was Kadosh, a cute cafe in town. Unlike most cafes in Jerusalem, this place not only has atmosphere, but the menu strays beyond the typical breakfast, salads, and sandwiches offered everywhere. And the baked goods are very, very good.

On the final day of my TBEX press trip, Jerusalem Tourism arranged for us to have lunch at Kadosh Cafe. It was pure bedlam when we arrived. At first glance, it appeared that every seat in the tiny cafe was occupied.

**The pastries are Kadosh are a work of art but I also recommend the Israeli breakfast. Delicious shakshuka!. If you’re in Israel around Chanukah time, get the donuts.
