It may only have opened in 2017, but JM Reidys somehow feels like it’s always been at the heart of Killarney nightlife, thanks in part to how they have kept the old-fashioned exterior (and some of the interior) of the iconic former sweetshop and bar that began trading here in the 1870s. The warren of beautifully presented bars weaves an Alice in Wonderland tale throughout the venue. Cosy spaces, atmospheric booths, original snugs, and the large outdoor area, which clinched the title of Regional Winner for “Best Outdoor Space” at the 2022 Irish Pub Awards, always keep you on your toes, wondering what’s around the next corner.

Reidy’s is renowned throughout the county as being the best cocktail bar in the Kingdom – but during the day they run a fab cafe with coffees, baked goods, and light lunch bites. Scones, cookies, and muffins are baked fresh each day and are best enjoyed with a smooth coffee in hand while watching the buskers and bustle of Main Street. The first thing that struck me was the eclectic decor – a delightful mishmash of old photographs and newspaper clippings that seemed to whisper tales of yore.

If I were to leave ‘Reidy’s’ off this list I’m certain the pitchforks would be coming for me. You really can’t visit Killarney without calling here. Now John M.
