It’s exactly what we’ve come to expect from The Exchequer: stylish to a fault, ticking every box for produce, both alcoholic and edible, and dutiful but laid-back service that helps just enough while making you feel at home. Cocktails are ample and not for the uninitiated – I sampled the spicy Bloody Mary with jalapeño vodka and it was meaty, to say the least.

My friends and I had the most delightful evening there, and it’s easy to see why this place is so highly rated. The food was nothing short of spectacular; each dish was bursting with flavour, especially the scallops which were a personal favourite. The wine list was extensive and perfectly curated, making it a joy to pair our meals with some exquisite choices.

The wine bar in Ranelagh (which also has a location in the city centre) does a roast Sunday lunch for four people from 11am - 4pm, and needs to be booked in advance. It includes a bottle of house wine and all of the trimmings for €69.95 - €79.95, with a choice of roast rib of beef, roast rack of pork, roast chicken or a seasonal special.

The Exchequer does a lovely classic brunch, but the Sunday roast for four is something everyone should try once. There are also many independent boutiques in the village that are worth checking out afterwards, like Seagreen and Bow & Pearl, if you fancy a spot of shopping.
