What was once a banking vault is now a vibrant, stylish French bistro with an Art Deco mural that reflects the ambience of the dining room; cultured and cosmopolitan, notably sophisticated and significantly fun. Owner Barry Canny, formerly of Browne’s Brasserie, sought to create a space with an unrivalled buzz across the city, and establish a European city style bistro atmosphere in the heart of Dublin. His vision has seen great success; today Peploe’s is somewhat of an institution in its own right, the experience only further enhanced by the fantastic, Michelin recommended food.

Peploe’s draw a posh crowd and celebrities in town tend to drop in, so the staff runs as smooth as it needs to be when demands can be idiosyncratic. The wine list is excellent, with a good house Bordeaux. The food, while well prepared, does not pretend to novelty, geared instead to a something-for-everyone menu like a hearty onion soup gratinée with sourdough crouton and piping hot Gruyère (€9.50) and a cream of cauliflower soup (€8.50).

Situated just off of St Stephen's Green, Peploe's is a charming fine dining restaurant housed in a Georgian-listed building. The interiors combine the feel of a European brasserie with a chic New York eatery, featuring dark wooden panneling and crisp white tablecloths. Their menu features the very best of French and Italian cuisine, from chicken Milanese to chargrilled rib-eye steaks and roasted cauliflower.

There’s something quite whimsical about descending the steps into Peploe’s, an intimate basement style dining spot with simple but good food and wine. The classic Georgian building dates as far back as the 1760s; the decor has a feel of a long established, stylish gentleman’s club. Plus the food is gorgeous too.

A 2017 refurb has turned Peploe's on St. Stephen's Green into a space worthy of a French movie, and the menu, featuring timeless dishes like French onion soup, and sea trout tartare, is unfussy, but still fitting of a special night out. For more information, visit peploes.com
