Since opening a few years back, Host has won legions of loyal fans, who now flock to Ranelagh to snaffle small plates to share over a bottle of Tempranillo or a white port and tonic. The menu is fairly small but filled with winners, from a burrata with tomato and mint to a shiitake mushroom tagliolini. The warm chunks of focaccia that kick off every meal are divine.

Since its opening in 2017, a seat in Host’s dining room has consistently remained one of the most sought-after in town. It’s the kind of outing you look forward to for months (or more specifically, for 62 days, which is how far in advance they accept bookings), with fresh pasta made in-house and paired with a rota of regularly changing, simple ingredients, and Irish meat and seafood grilled to perfection. Anyone who’s been will tell you the vibe matches the food, with friendly staff confidently talking you through the menu, recommending the best dishes to share and of course, the best wine to accompany.

With a tagline that includes “fresh pasta” in it, Host was bound to be high up on this list. Known for their fresh papperdelli with eight-hour braised beef shin braised in tomato and white wine. Holly Dalton included Host on her list, while the owner of Bahay Riggz Castillo added, “they’ve always got three rotating fresh pasta dishes on the menu, every one of them is banging, every single time.” While Paul McVeigh likes the Pumpkin Cappellacci from Host.

But this is the second week (before that was a friends and family soft launch) and we needn’t have worried — by the time we leave the place is full, abuzz and we imagine before long this might get as difficult to book as the nearby hotspot Host.

A number of other Dublin restaurants were added to the Michelin Guide. They are Big Fan, Chapter One by Mickael Viljanen (which was recently awarded two Michelin Stars), Clanbrassil House, Host, Mae, Mister S and Osteria Lucio.
