At this book-themed restaurant in Budapest’s Jewish Quarter, diners can enjoy a three-course menu based on a different literary work each week. A creative concept that never fails to delight, flavors are classic with a twist – previous novels on the menu have included Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Murder on the Orient Express. There’s also an à la carte option for those who aren’t tempted by the literature-themed cuisine, while the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.

The menu is pricy but certainly worth a visit as it has incorporates traditional foods with an inspired dish that changes every second week – the best part is that these dishes are based on your favourite novels – such as Harry Potter or Winnie the Pooh – to give you a taste of some unique inspired dishes!. Also, the restaurant offers a gastronomical experience – a set menu of five courses, if you fancy a treat of a night out.

If you’re looking for a singular food experience in Budapest you HAVE to go to KönyvBár & Restaurant. The food is book-themed and they offer rotating tasting menus where they “Cook the Book.” The book we ate was “Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix.” While the set menu contains gluten the chef was more than happy to modify all of the dishes that contained gluten (and we didn’t notice a difference)!!. It was a bit of a spendy-er evening but the experience and food were WELL worth it!

Who needs a run-of-the-mill menu when you can have a new one every fortnight with dishes based on different books?. That’s exactly what, among other things, makes KonyvBar so special. When I visited, the book for the fortnight was The Great Gatsby (one of my favourites) – however, with only two dishes available for each course, it wasn’t looking so good on the gluten free front.

Pleasantly surprising in its originality, Könyvbár’s menu is unlike anything you’ll find in the Hungarian capital. Inspired by books, the dishes here change every two weeks, with Harry Potter’s favorite pumpkin soup and the Nutcracker-influenced Christmas pudding serving as former options. The interior is also book themed, with shelves full of literary works lining its walls.

Könyv means book in Hungarian, and the owners of this place are really fans of them. The idea here is to combine gastronomy, wine and reading so in addition to the traditional menu and an excellent selection of drinks, Könyvár offers weekly, book-inspired dishes for tasting. If you ever wanted to know which wine pairs best to your favourite book this is the place to try.

This is one way to define this delightful place, where the walls are covered with bookshelves full of books and where you can enjoy a lovely evening with wine, beer and, of course, good food. Among the dishes, classics such as goulash, beef stroganoff, or the trio of chocolates are highly recommended.

The perfect place for a treat or special occasion, this unusual venue takes inspiration from a library lining it’s walls with books. They constantly update their themed set menu to bring the diners an delicious experience to remember.

The Culture Trip features this book-themed restaurant where the menu is centred around a different work of literature each week. There is also menu for those who are not intrigued by a Murder on the Orient Express themed culinary experience, all presented in a friendly environment.

(But, then, how could it? Once the trendy accolades fade, Mazel Tov will be just fine.) Just around the corner is the inviting little KönyvBár & Restaurant (könyv means “book”), with a literary-themed menu and a dining room that feels like a sleek, minimalist library.

Definitely one of the best romantic restaurants in Budapest is Könyvbár (Book bar). Last week when I last visited this place, their weekly book menu was Game of Thrones!. Besides their regular a la carte, they prepare a food homage to a great book every week.

This is undoubtedly one of the most original and innovative restaurants in Budapest, and that’s saying a lot. If you love reading and could spend hours lost among books, don’t hesitate, this is the place for you. The atmosphere is cosy and homely.
