What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
La Fonda de la Calle Real is praised for its authentic Guatemalan cuisine and beautiful colonial ambiance, making it a highly recommended spot for traditional flavors. While many rave about the delicious food and impeccable service, some diners have noted inconsistencies in meat tenderness and portion sizes, with a few experiencing issues with food temperature or preparation. Despite occasional critiques, the overall experience is often described as charming and worthwhile.
"I was able to have dinner here with a client and they recommended this restaurant because it was traditional Guatemalan food. The restaurant was very cute and the food was very traditional and delicious.
I had the fish for dinner with plantains and it was very tasty. My cocktail dinner drinks were good and sitting on the main floor added to the ambiance. The restaurant has a middle patio area with an open roof.
I recommend this place if you are wanting traditional Guatemalan food."

"I came to this place to taste traditional Guatemalan food, and it was recommended by the hotel reception where I was staying.
As always, in the places I’ve visited in Guatemala, the service was impeccable—very kind and attentive.
Regarding the food, it was a 50/50 experience. My three-meat pepián was good—the stew was very tasty—but it wasn’t spectacular because the meat was tough and tasted old. The chicken and pork were fine.
As for my partner’s meal, they ordered barbecue pork ribs, which were inedible. The pork was extremely tough, as if it had been in a freezer for too long—just like what happened with the meat in my pepián. I recommend carefully reviewing your production processes because the flavor is good, but the final product is not.
The ambiance is cute.
I hope you can improve."

This is a good place to get traditional Guatemalan food, such as pepian, though there's also plenty of international-style food here as well. This restaurant has been so popular that they've opened three branches, all within a few blocks of each other. My favorite branch atmosphere-wise is the one on 3a Calle.
