Of all the places we visited in Santorini, the downright most tasty food was at Lucky’s Souvlaki, a small, quite unimpressive looking venue on the tourist street close to Fira’s bus station. What they do is souvlaki; meaning kebab-style meat skewers; gyros, which is shaved, döner kebab resembling pork or chicken shaved vertically from a rotating spit, and a few other foods, served fast food style, meaning mainly wrapped in fluffy pita bread, slathered in tzatziki and then washed down with a cold mug of Alfa beer.

It may not be restaurant-worthy, but it would be rude not to mention souvlaki, since we’re in Greece. This cheap and cheerful bite is made with skewered grilled meat and served with a tomato and onion salad inside pitta bread, often topped by lashings of tzatsiki – Greece’s trademark condiment. Lucky’s is located just off the main road in Fira and is the perfect choice for those after fast fuel before exploring the island.

Luckys Souvlaki – In Fira, close to the bus stop and taxi park – stands the small, inconspicuous souvlaki shop called Luckys. Here, you can find the best Gyros – ‘pronounced yerros’ in Santorini. Trust us, we’ve eaten quite a few gyros in our time here and this place is the place to be.

Lucky’s is a fantastic gyros/pita shop located right at the centre of town. It was about a four minute walk from our hotel and another two from the bus station. Santorini is an expensive place and we took full advantage of eating somewhere that was both delicious and cheap.

If Lucky’s is the go to spot in Fira, Pitogyros is the budget eats haven in stunning Oia, some might say the gyros here are even better. Take your pick from delicious souvlaki, pitas, gyros, or salads and wash it down with a cold local beer.

Pelican Kipos is perfect for lunch and has outdoor seating in a lovely garden setting. For dinner, there are several restaurants facing the ocean with amazing sunset views, such as Parea Tavern, Argo, Idol, Naoussa, and Volcano Blue.

If you’re in Santorini, you have to try Lucky’s souvlaki at least once before you leave. It serves delicious and affordable gyros that are so delicious you surely wouldn’t forget them. This restaurant doesn’t take reservations.
