With no telephone number or signs, this simple little family-run garden taverna would likely be missed if there wasn’t a constant line of people waiting to grab a table—in the summer, expect to wait up to an hour. The sea views of Agios Sostis Beach are relaxing, and the perfect thing to gaze at as you wait for your meat and fish dishes that will be expertly grilled on a barbecue. The specialty is the pork cutlet but most traditional Greek tavern dishes are served with salads and creamy dips.

When in Greece, I prefer to indulge in local specialties, so here’s what I’ve spotted: Nice n’ Easy in Chora (amazing Mediterranean food with locally-sourced organic ingredients – just have a look at this); Spilia in Agia Anna for seafood right by the sea (beware of the arrogant waiters though!); dinner and cocktails at my favoutire beach bar Alemagou; Liasti in Lia beach for simple but excellently cooked Greek food and Kiki’s at Agios Sostis. The latter is rather difficult to find as there’s no sign, phone or website and no reservations are taken. Luckily, there are very few many buildings around, so try to locate the tree-shaded terrace overlooking the beach and make sure to arrive promptly (before 13:00 or after 16:00) to avoid queuing.

The biggest issue with Kiki’s Tavern is that it is small, extremely popular, does not take bookings or have a website, and will require patience on your part to be seated during peak season. The rest, be it the views of the secluded Agios Sostis beach down below, the authentic Greek atmosphere, super-friendly staff, and the food are, to put it mildly, unforgettable. Located on a hillside, Kiki’s Tavern is your quintessential off the beaten track restaurant, so make sure you book a taxi in advance for your return.

This was one of our most memorable dining experiences in Mykonos. You can only get here by car so this would be a great lunch spot for when you have your rental car (or private driver). The restaurant is only open during daylight hours since there is no electricity.

You might not believe that there is a bar or restaurant where you can eat a delicious traditional Greek meal in serenity. However, Kiki’s Tavern is a great exception. It is located at Agios Sostis Beach, and it is a symbol of what the destination was like before.

Kiki’s Tavern: Super cute and casual place with delicious food. It is tiny, and they don’t take reservations, so keep this in mind. However, they do serve glasses of rose while waiting and the beach is just steps away (bring a swimsuit!).

Oh, and if you’re driving around the island, pop into Kiki’s Tavern on the north coast. It’s a relaxed and authentic little grill that has views over the sea. It’s so blissful and probably one of the best meals we had in Mykonos.

Get there for 11:30, get in the queue, put your name down, and take turns going for a dip. If you go later you could be waiting two hours but will be given free rose wine whilst you wait. They do not take bookings.
