"Stopped by for lunch on a Sunday after doing a wine tasting at Rinke the night before. As expected, this place was great. Well decorated near the Basilica, and quietly tucked away. We had a chicken cordon Bleu and a steak "special" with the pfifferling mushrooms. The service was great, the food was even better, and the wine was already known to be amazing. Would go back here whenever we're in Trier and recommend it to anyone looking for a hearty meal. The portions were more than enough to have some leftovers."

"The wine tasting, which I booked beforehand via email, was the absolut Highlight! Alex Rinke the winemaker, was more than happy to talk about his wines and they were all so tasty!! The star for us was the brand new sparkling wine! The team were all more than lovely. We are on holiday and can't really leave our dog at the hotel so we were so happy when he instantly got lots of love and treats from everybody. That is not the case at every restaurant, let me tell you. The food was delicious. Bring an empty stomach, it's huge portions! The restaurant itself is in an really old former school, where Karl Marx did his Abitur, so thats also Special. Interieur is really nice and it has a nice ambience. We came as a couple but it is really well suited for groups.
All in all: you feel and see that here are people working that care.

Ein saisonales und regionales Restaurant in Trier – so bezeichnet sich die Weinwirtschaft Friedrich-Wilhelm, die in den ehemaligen Räumlichkeiten des Friedrich-Wilhelm Gymnasiums ihre Gäste bewirtet. Weinwirtschaft Friedrich Wilhelm is located in the former premises of the Friedrich-Wilhelm Grammar School, one of the oldest in Germany. Personalities such as Karl Marx and Oswald von Nell-Breuning took their exams for the general university entrance qualification here. Now turned into a restaurant, they serve regional delicacies accompanied by a large selection of wines from the Bischöfliche Weingüter, the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium and the Rinke winery.

In April of this year, the 1 star Michelin Chef Alexander Oos and his wife Daniela Oos took over the former restaurant Cumvino an der Weberbach, which they named Weinwirtschaft Friedrich Wilhelm. The wines are all from the tenant: the Bischöfliche Güter und the Weingut Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium (founded in 1561), which belongs since 2004 to the Bischöflichen Priesterseminar.

We had our dinner at Weinwirtschaft Friedrich-Wilhelm restaurant. The restaurant was beautiful with a huge outdoor seating (I fall for it always!). However with the weather, not so dependable, we chose to sit inside, esp., since we were with Atyudarini.
