Reviews Summary
Ratskeller München is celebrated for its stunning, historic cellar ambiance and authentic Bavarian cuisine. Diners frequently praise dishes like the potato soup and apple strudel, while also appreciating the generous portions. However, some reviewers note that the prices have increased, and service can be slow during peak times.
"The ambient is just extremely good, either in the inner patio or the restaurant itself. The price might a be a big expensive (pint of beer + sausage mix platter for 30 eur). But it'll will be a nice memory for me."

"We did not have a reservation but were welcomed at 13:00 on a Friday.
The atmosphere is fine and pretty, the service is good if you find a waiter’s attention! There should be at least double number of waiters compared to now!
There was a 40‘ gap between starter and main dish!!!!!!!!!!! Irritating.
The Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) was not good at all. The pork meat had no taste but bland meat-like and I personally could not eat it!
The potato soup was actually VERY good and filling!
The cheese sampler fish was overpriced but tasty with grapes!
The sausage sampler dish was medium and not bad. The kale inside was delicious and yummy.
As a general review, this place is only recommended for the beauties of the basement(!). To me here is not worth a second visit."
Mahsa Kashefi
"This place is an excellent spot to enjoy some authentic German food. First off, the atmosphere is cozy yet grand, with a comforting ambience. The servers were very kind and attentive, but the thing that most stood out about this place is the food. The bratwurst was juicy and cooked to perfection, while the wiener schnitzel was unique and delicious. However, the most delicious dish here was the apple strudel. It had decadent layers of apple over layers of pastry, and whipped cream and ice cream on the side. The dish was a melody of flavors and temperatures that hit in just the right spots. Overall, if you want delicious food, cozy vibes, and attentive service, Ratskeller is the spot for you."

As you descend down the grand stonestaircase into the restaurant, you would be right in thinking that Ratskeller looks more like an extravagant monastery than a restaurant. Its coved ceilings lined with mahogany, stain glass windows and the beautiful wooden chairs and tables make this a wonderful dining experience.

Smack dab on Marienplatz, complete with elaborately painted ceilings and a swath of underground dining space that feels more medieval than 21st century, Ratskeller has been wowing the hungry folks of Munich and otherwise for centuries. Its menu boasts loads of Bavarian and German fares, while also highlighting more specific regions such as Franconia. Treat yourself to a stone mug of the Franziskaner Kellerbier — you're dining in a keller (cellar) afterall — and a bowl of the long-hailed Ratskeller kartoffelsuppe.

The Ratskeller restaurant is located in the vaults of the town hall, as the name (which literally means “town hall cellar”) suggests, and makes a popular meeting point for diners. On the corner of the Rathaus, directly beside the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall), stands the Beck department store with its strikingly patterned façade. This traditional Munich business looks back on a history spanning some 150 years.

The new Rathaus, or town hall in English, is the large gothic building in the middle of Marienplatz and has served as Munich’s town hall since 1874. Located in the basement of the Rathaus, is the Ratskeller, a very traditional Bavarian restaurant and beer cellar. The tables are covered in white table cloths and decorated with small flowers, and the low ceilings are covered in beautiful paintings.

We went to Ratskeller because, well it feels like you have to go to Ratskeller when you stay in old town. It is located below the “New Town Hall” and is made of a sprawling dining room with several bars. We ended up in one of the smaller bars that also served cocktails to avoid the noise and crowds of the main dining room.

I little more upscale, but still traditional, would be the Ratskeller (basement of Rathaus) or Zum Augustiner, near Stachus on Neuhauser Straße.
