Reviews Summary

Haxnbauer is highly praised for its authentic Bavarian cuisine, particularly the legendary crispy pork knuckle, and the traditional, lively atmosphere. While many commend the delicious food and generous portions, some reviews mention inconsistent service and a lack of air conditioning, which can be an issue during warmer months.

"We came specifically for the pork knuckle and we were not disappointed. Crispy skin and beautifully cooked meat. Half was enough for us and nicely washed down with refreshingly cold beer. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended."

"The food and beer were delicious. The traditional ambiance and the waiters' outfits attract a lot of attention from tourists. The service was fast, polite, and friendly"

Koray Alin

"Travelled for the pork knuckle and it definitely didn’t disappoint! Crispy outer shell with a moist flesh on the inside. Each pork knuckle weighed about 1kg each, which would best feed around 3 people. Service was quick and bathroom was clean.

Only thing that could improve could be the service. Despite other people’s reviews, we were never offered ‘pork knuckles that we could choose from’, and was just brought a random one to our table. Thus if we would like a smaller pork knuckle, we were unable to choose so. In another review, the restaurant replied to the customer stating that they have waiters that will check in to ensure the food is good and that the quality of the pork knuckle is good and not dry. However not a single waiter checked in on us during our time there, despite us having our meal at 6:30pm where much of the restaurant was still empty. We had to even approach the front desk ourselves (which was empty) to find a waiter to make our payment for our meal

Although these are just very minute issues, it would be nice to see that the restaurant lives up to its promise and deliver consistent service to all its customers. Apart from that, I would definitely return to Haxnbauer the next time I’m in Munich!"

Best Bars in Munich | 10 Munich Beer Halls

Located right in the middle of the city is Hackerhaus Munich, halfway along the historic Sendlingerstraße at the corner meeting Hackerstraße, a street owing its name to the brewery. Inside, this Munich bar is everything you can expect from a traditional Bavarian beerhall with wood-panelled walls, stripped back floors and a host of historical memorabilia. To the front of the venue, you’ll find a huge street-side seating area with canopies and plenty of space to get sat down and watch the world go by with a stein in hand!

Munich Beer Hall or Restaurant

Maybe it's simply what I ordered, but I really liked 3: Haxnbauer (you have to look for it, had beef goulash), Andesher am Dom (veal in mushroom cream sauce over spaetzel) and Der Pschorr (veal goulash w/spaetzel). Not places to eat a leisurely dinner (menus are not strong on appetizers) unless you plan to simply keep drinking the delicious beer.

That night, we opted for a traditional Bavarian dinner at Haxnbauer. Not that we didn’t have schnitzels or beer on other nights, but this was special. The restaurant is part of a historical building, the Scholastikahaus, which was historically documented in the 14th century. The restaurant is big, with lovely interiors.
