Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a picturesque resort town in Bavaria, known for its traditional Bavarian houses adorned with colorful frescoes (Lüftlmalerei) depicting scenes from daily life, fairy tales, and biblical stories. The town is located at the foot of Zugspitze (2,962 m), Germany’s highest mountain. It was formed in 1935 by merging two settlements: Garmisch, the more modern one, and Partenkirc...

Reviews Summary

IKIGAI is celebrated for its refined French-Japanese fusion cuisine, with many praising the unique 6-course menu and exceptional service, including wine and non-alcoholic pairings. However, some diners have found the long wait times and high cost to be disappointing, feeling it did not match the value, with one review noting it was the worst money spent and nearly ruined their trip.

"Dining at Luce d'Oro means discovering a refined fusion cuisine strongly influenced by Japanese elements. The 6 courses menu is an unique experience that will remain for a long time in my mind. The combination of new flavors impressed me positively and it allowed me to get closer to the Japanese cuisine which I didn't know before that evening.
I also enjoyed the way the courses were introduced to me by the waiters.
2 Michelin stars absolutely deserved, in my opinion."

"This was €800 down the drain. The worst money I have ever spent. The food took so long (2.5 hours) that I had to leave and put the kids to bed and was still hungry. This place is genuinely a blight on an otherwise amazing hotel. I strongly recommend avoiding it, as it just isn’t close to worth the money. Even if it cost half the amount it would be completely not worth it. We had an amazing trip to Schloss Elmau and this place nearly ruined it. I left tired, needing a meal, feeling terribly ripped off."

S R

"Well balanced fine dining that perfectly represents a two star Michelin rating. Food is of exceptional quality, really creative and reminded me quite a bit of Jean-Georges in New York. The menu is rather fish-heavy and quite Japan inspired, which is great, but could use a little variety in "inspiration" from other food cultures than Japan.

Atmosphere is really relaxed and comfortable, but the restaurant seems a little underappreciated in the hotel setting. It is basically in the basement, really difficult to find and not well advertised in the context of the hotel. Dining room doesn't feel as grand as the food and could use a little design diversity compared to the rest of the hotel (everything looks rather similar although it is the flagship restaurant). I would love to see this restaurant in the Summit room (on the same property), for example."
