Reviews Summary
Martinsbräu is a popular German brewery and restaurant praised for its authentic atmosphere, delicious food, and excellent beer selection. Diners often highlight the friendly and efficient service, with some multilingual staff members adding to the welcoming environment. While most reviews are glowing, a few patrons have noted occasional inconsistencies in food quality or less than professional service.
"I loved this restaurant! The staff was friendly and the service was quick — we didn’t have to wait long for our food. The traditional dishes were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was pleasant and cozy. I would definitely come back and I highly recommend it 🥰"

"Ah, it's so nice to take a break at Martin's Bräu, especially when it's really cold outside. Although it's noisy, we're happy to sit down at a table and enjoy a good meal. It's perfect for recharging a bit before facing the cold outside. 😅
The service from the waitstaff is excellent. The menu prices are average, so there are no surprises.
A true brewery atmosphere to discover.👌"

"Someone recommended me to eat here but what I got was not what I expected. The pork knuckle had a strong smell, the mashed potatoes were too cold and the service was unprofessional. We were treated coldly. I felt disappointed as a tourist who had traveled a long way to try German food. One time is enough"

Where To Eat In Freiburg
Martinsbräu is adjacent to MarktHalle, so if nothing takes your fancy inside the food court, head through to Martinsbräu for some truly fantastic German dishes. We ordered the bratwurst plate and knöpfle noodles to share as we wanted to enjoy as much German cuisine as possible and they were both excellent choices!. We’d eaten plenty of bratwursts before, but it was our first time trying knöpfle noodles (a type of pasta noodle made from egg and flour) and while I was a little unsure about them at first, they grew on me almost instantly and I finished the meal already craving more!
Freiburg, Beer on the Edge of the Black Forest
Martinsbräu, a Hausbrauerei (brewpub) that opened in 1989, is a good place to start your beer explorations of Freiburg. You’ll find it down an alley off a busy street that passes through Martinstor, one of Freiburg’s medieval city gates. Martinsbräu serves classic German styles, but also bills itself as a “craft beer” spot, with monthly releases that span IPA, stout, and even a Brut IPA. Who knew that was still a thing.

Martin’s Bräu is my favourite beer Keller in Freiburg because of the atmosphere. It’s below ground, decorated with cuckoo clocks, and does delicious food. Their special is the pork knuckle, called Haxe in German.

It’s got your long wooden tables, simple (but tasty!) hearty German fare, and of course their home-brewed beer. This is the only place in Freiburg I visit when I want traditional German food.
