Reviews Summary
Watzke am Goldenen Reiter is praised for its authentic German cuisine, tasty house-brewed beers, and prime location by the Goldenen Reiter statue. While many enjoy the hearty meals and good beer, some diners have noted issues with service speed due to understaffing and occasional confusion with orders.
"While waiting to collect our visa stamps at the Czech Consulate, we saw Watzke right after crossing the bridge. What a wonderful choice! Beautiful interior with a large bell and lots of seating options. We were also happy to find they brew their own beers! We went with Hell style, which is fairly light with superior taste. Our meal was Berlins favorite Currywurst with fries! This was just as good if not better than to be found in the capital! The other patrons had other local dishes that certainly looked and smelled great. Our server was wonderful and attentive! He even said cheers in Czech! Well worth stopping in here!"

"I was extremely disappointed with the service. I ordered the Gorgonzola pasta with chicken, as clearly stated on the menu. The server oddly asked if I wanted it with chicken (which confused me) but I still confirmed, “Yes, of course.” When the food arrived, it was just plain pasta with no chicken.
I pointed this out, and the server casually said he “forgot” I wanted chicken, despite it being part of the dish by default. Even worse, he made no effort to fix it properly. He said he could bring the chicken but would have to charge extra and it would take 20 minutes, while everyone else at my table was already eating.
His final “solution”? He suggested I take the chicken off my mom’s plate. Seriously? That’s not only unprofessional but also completely unacceptable. He refused to take the dish back or offer a replacement, so we ended up switching plates, my mom ate plain potatoes and salad while I ate her chicken.
I didn’t even want to pay after this experience. The server clearly didn’t care, and this is not the level of service I’d expect from a place with a good reputation."

"I recently ordered an espresso and two glasses of tap water (not bottled), and was charged €12.80 in total.
According to the bill, a 0.4 L glass of water costs €4.20 – which, frankly, is cheaper in the middle of the desert.
This does not seem like a normal price, and it is overcharged - or something else...have no idea..."

If you are looking for a typical German biergarten experience and something a bit local, then worth checking out one of the Brauhaus Watzke’s in Dresden. I visited their Neustadt outpost and found their beers pleasant and the food looked pretty decent. I visited on a Tuesday when they offer a stein Maß beer for €5.50!
