Reviews Summary

Café Leila is widely praised for its incredibly charming and unique 'dollhouse' atmosphere and its delicious Georgian vegetarian cuisine. Diners rave about the welcoming ambiance, especially the outdoor seating and the unique desserts. While most find the food tasty and reasonably priced, a few reviews mention that some dishes might be overpriced or lack a certain 'wow' factor, and service can occasionally be inconsistent.

"It truly feels like a dollhouse restaurant! 😍 So colorful and charming—you just want to sit for hours, sip tea, enjoy delicious pastries, and soak in the lovely atmosphere.
I completely fell in love with this place!"

Shima Rajabi

"Leila Cafe truly is beautiful and in a prime location in Tbilisi!

I initially went looking for vegan options, and while the pasta wasn't fully plant-based (it had egg, so just vegetarian), I struck gold with their Eggplants, Caramelized Onions, Spicy Walnut Sauce, Grits with Cheese.

This dish was absolutely fantastic and perfectly egg-free.

Definitely a great spot for vegetarians and those seeking flavorful, non-vegan options in a gorgeous setting!"

Travel with Vidushi #travelwithvidushi

"Cafe Leila is one of the unique places in Tbilisi, with its Eastern-style interior and creative menu. The menu offers traditional Georgian vegetarian dishes. However, the prices are quite high, even though there is no meat.

The homemade lemonade was super fresh and tasty. The Georgian-style pasta with garlic sauce was quite good, while the mushroom risotto felt like something was missing."

Rediscovering khachapuri, Georgia's must-try classic

Every khachapuri in every region has its own story,” says Dalila Tsatava, president of the Georgian Gastronomy Association, when we meet at Leila, a city centre cafe with a mostly vegetarian menu. In the northern highlands of Racha, for example, the square, flaky local version of the bread is baked with a walnut in each corner as a talisman for a good walnut harvest.

In the heart of Tbilisi’s Old Town, Café Leila is a vegetarian venue that offers plan-based traditional Georgian food in its Oriental-inspired décor with ornate stucco carvings and Muqarnas-adorned ceilings. Founded by Chef Meriko Gubeladze, the person behind the modern Georgian restaurants of Shavi Lomi and Ninia’s Garden, Café Leila’s menu reimagines Georgian classics with plant-based ingredients, offering delights like vegetarian Kharcho and Chaqapuli. It also offers an array of fresh salads, appetizers, soups, and indulgent desserts.

Blue Fox - As Fine As Tbilisi Dining Gets

Down on the pedestrian Shavtili Street between the fabulous Leila and Metis restaurants is an intimate Old Town courtyard with an outdoor bar and a dozen tables set around an olive tree in the center. Over the eclectic din of neighborhood dueling pianos aching for a tuning, I order a perfect Negroni and mull over the menu even though I know what I’m going to order. I’m at the Blue Fox, a new restaurant that opened last year with the stylish 17- room boutique House Hotel in the old Nikolozishvili mansion.

Great Tbilisi Restaurants for a Taste of Georgia

Café Leila serves traditional Georgian cuisine with a twist, because everything on the menu is vegetarian. We are far from being vegetarian, but we found we didn’t even miss the meat in Café Leila’s hearty vegetarian dishes. Our lunch included chvishtari, cornbread filled with cheese served with a beetroot and plum sauce (a thousand times better than any fried cheese stick), and vegetarian kharcho, made with eggplants and zucchini in a walnut and pomegranate sauce and served over hominy.

52 Unique Things to Do in Tbilisi: The Ultimate Guide

In a country where desserts are not all that common, Orbeliani’s Royal Candy or kaklucha is an exceptional example of a Georgian sweet. Named after the poet and sweet-tooth for whom it was invented, Vakhtang Orbeliani, the candy is made according to an age-old and closely guarded recipe. And it’s only served at a handful of cafes in Tbilisi, including Cafe Leila.

A cute vegetarian cafe/restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. I enjoyed their lobio (beans in a clay pot) with pickles, and their badrijani nigvzite (eggplant with walnuts and spices).
