An idyllic spot for families, couples and solo travelers, Monument Cafe is perfectly situated at the bottom of the Versailles Cathedral. The elegant interior is chic and spacious, and the staff are arguably some of the friendliest in the area. Monument offers a buffet of mixed specialities every lunchtime, the most popular of which is the delicious Sunday brunch option.

C’est un moment très Versailles Château que vous passerez au Monument Café : déco murale et tables châteaux et jardins, et musique Lully (par intermittence)… Ce qui ravit les enfants et simplifie beaucoup la logistique des parents, c’est le principe du buffet : aucune attente pour les éventuels galopins impatients, tout est déjà prêt. La formule 1 plat chaud + 4 verrines (15 € / Plat + 2 verrines pour – de 10 ans à 10€) vous laissera le choix entre plusieurs plats chauds en cassolettes, recettes originales concoctées intégralement par le jeune chef qui utilise des produits locaux, en particulier ceux du Potager du Roi, situé à quelques pas de là. Quant au buffet (formule à 26 €), vous ne saurez que choisir entre les verrines salées et sucrées toutes plus attirantes les unes que les autres !

If this cafe were in Paris’ center, I would probably eat here everyday. For just €26 you’ll have access to a buffet worthy of the royals themselves, complete with starters, cheese boards, main meals, and desserts. The best part is that the cafe is a short walk from the main entrance to the palace.

Ideally located a few steps from the Château and near the Cathedral, Monument Café Versailles offers simple and tasty home-made dishes, in the form of a buffet, brunch (week-ends and public holidays), lunches, snacks or dinner ... The chef favours fresh and local ingredients.

All of the food was exceptionally good and prepared with care. The vibe was casual— which is what we wanted after three hours touring Versailles The wait staff was very helpful and friendly and kind. Loved the selection of appetizers in small glasses.

Discovering Café de l’Échelle in Versailles was such a treat. This quaint little café/restaurant offers the perfect respite from the busy town. The wonderful staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, making the entire experience enjoyable.

So the easiest way I can describe this would be a gourmand Caffetteria. Let me explain before that first sentence puts you off. In France you have what’s called Traiteurs, which is where the food is pre-cooked and then heated up.

Sometimes you just want a good, hearty brunch without all the fancy frills, ya know?. That’s when I head to Monument Café. It’s become my go-to spot when showing friends around Versailles who don’t want to break the bank.
