Reviews Summary

Chez Georges is lauded for its authentic French cuisine, classic brasserie ambiance, and attentive service. Diners rave about hearty, perfectly prepared dishes and a charming, old-world atmosphere. While some find the tables close together, this is often considered part of the unique charm. Occasional critiques mention value for money, but the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive for a quintessential Parisian dining experience.

"Excellent service from Sébastien and Kalicia. Excellent staff. Food was amazing. Simple classic dishes perfectly done...we had entrecôte and filet. Everything perfect..

The English/french guy is also very good.

Thank you guys!
Sebastien is an excellent staff"

Escargot was really good"

"France has one last thing to do: preserve the essence of French cuisine. Having visited Paris over a hundred times, it's disheartening to witness the decline in the quality of French cuisine, once renowned as a symbol of France's excellence in food and beverage.

As someone who rarely complains, it's disappointing to feel undervalued as a customer.

Paying €42 at a classic Persian fine dining restaurant in Paris should warrant an exceptional experience, yet the reality falls far short. The quality and quantity of the food does not match the price paid, indicating a need for improvement, particularly in the culinary team.

While the service was adequate and the waiter attempted to address my concerns, I refrained from returning the food to the kitchen or requesting a replacement. Instead, I chose not to revisit the restaurant.

Regrettably, I cannot recommend this establishment to others. The combination of inflated prices and subpar quality does not align with the expectations for a memorable dining experience in Paris.

I am giving 0 out of 10 (zero) to Kitchen stuff or Chef Who proud to serve this sirloin like smashed or left over from Dog bite.

It wasn’t even medium what I asked. How could be possible is this unevenly shape, can cook medium evenly😖"

10 of the best bistros in Paris | Paris holidays

Yes, it's expensive, and yes, at least half of the dining room will be speaking a language other than French – usually various colonial permutations of English – but this is only because the entire English-speaking world comes to Paris on an enthralled mission to eat the great bistro dishes so lovingly described by writers like Elizabeth David and Julia Child. The hard fact of the matter is that this sort of cooking is harder and harder to find in Paris. So tune out the prattle from New Jersey and Melbourne and enjoy such brilliant old-fashioned bistro dishes as celeriac rémoulade, grilled turbot with béarnaise sauce, duck breast with cèpe mushrooms, cassoulet, and pot-au-feu (beef and marrow bones simmered with root vegetables).

The 18 Best Bistros In Paris - Paris

If you’re looking for service with that stereotypical blend of efficiency, practiced scorn, and flirtiness, reserve a table at Chez Georges—and make sure it’s the one on rue du Mail in the 2nd arrondissement or risk a disappointing visit to one of many spots with the same name. This Chez Georges is a time warp that begins with a handwritten menu in a looping French penmanship that hasn’t been taught since the ’60s. Share a massive bowl of salade lyonnaise with thumb-sized chunks of lardon, and save space for one of the very meaty mains, like a hearty veal liver slab served next to a mound of shoestring frites you dreamed every sidewalk café made.

When you’re craving a true Paris Brasserie experience, you can’t do better than Chez Georges, with its lace-curtained windows, tiled mosaic floor and banquette seating that surely date back to its 1964 opening. Don’t be intimidated by its mysterious façade; within is a bustling, beloved restaurant that is as welcoming to tourists as it is to locals. Take time to savour the hand-written menu, which lists a lengthy selection of home-made dishes, and covers everything a traditional French food lover could hope for, from œuf mayo to sole meunière to profiteroles, with a petite but perfectly complementary wines-by-the-glass list.

7 Classic Paris Bistros

Chez Georges is a traditional French bistro I have passed many times and had an apartment close by, and never went into it until recently as a recommendation from our wedding photographer. The restaurant is on Rue du Mail in the second arrondissement in the heart of Paris. I tried to get a reservation while I was in Paris a few years ago, and they were fully booked, so I highly recommend booking in advance directly with them here.

When I go to Chez Georges I get the exact same thing every time, the Pavé du Mail with extra crispy frites. The mustard/butter/cream/cognac sauce is one of the best things you’ll ever taste and you need the fries to be extra crispy to hold up against the sauce. I know there are other excellent dishes on the menu because I’ve tried bites of other people’s food, but the Pavé du Mail will always be number one in my heart and belly.
