Reviews Summary

Peixes is celebrated for its fresh, flavorful, and inventive seafood dishes, particularly ceviches and tartares, served in a lively atmosphere. While many praise the exceptional taste and creative combinations, some reviews mention a decline in quality and portion sizes compared to previous visits, as well as issues with food temperature and ambiance.

"Not your typical seafood spot — and that’s a good thing.

This place delivers fresh, flavorful seafood with a unique twist that leaves you feeling happy and surprisingly light. It’s not your old-school seafood joint — the menu is inventive, the flavors are clean, and every bite feels just right.

Be ready for a line at lunch — but don’t worry, it moves quickly.
Patience pays off here. The energy is high, the pace is fast, and the wait is part of the experience.

Pro tip: Ask for your condiments with your order. The staff are friendly but busy, and you’ll want everything on hand when your food arrives — which happens fast.

Seating is crowded but somehow still comfortable enough for a proper conversation. It’s buzzy, flavorful, and worth the wait."

"We had such a great meal at Peixes! Everything was fresh and full of flavor.

The mussel casserole with saffron sauce was absolutely delicious — the sauce had a light sweetness and paired perfectly with sourdough. The mussels were super fresh and plump.

The scallop ceviche was a highlight — it was my first time trying scallop served this way, and I loved the bright, tangy flavors. The sea bass ceviche was also excellent — the cream with dill was an unexpected but amazing touch that balanced everything beautifully.

But the real standout was the octopus noodle dish. It had both sliced and whole pieces of octopus — the slices were crispy outside and tender inside, while the whole piece was incredibly soft and flavorful. A must-order!

The half-baked salmon was good, though more within expectations compared to the other dishes.

Definitely a place I’d recommend if you want something fresh, fun, and different in Nice!"

"We have only words of praise for this place. There is no reservation, but you show up and they either sit you right away or they ask you to come back in 20min. Don't be afraid of the line because it moves quickly:)
The food is exceptional - fresh, well prepared and beautifully composed. Every condiment of the dish is well thought and has a meaning. The wine list is perfect - best of (i really think that you can't make a mistake whatever you order).
Very important thing - stuff 💗 They work so hard and they are so busy - but they are very well organized and they are very good at providing excellent service. We really appreciate it. Thank you Naomi, you were wonderful as well as the whole experience. 💞Best dinner we had in a long time, and we will come back for sure. Hats off to the entire team"

I was recently directing a production of Romeo and Juliet at the opera house, a stone’s throw away, and we would dash in at the interval. The chefs at Piexes worked miracles preparing their amazing ceviches (€13 a portion) so we could get back in time for the next act. There’s delicate sea bream marinated in coconut milk, lemon grass and tamarind and succulent scallops with tangy passion fruit juice and avocado puree, but they also serve oysters, a spicy salmon tataki, and a theatrical smoked octopus with gnocchi and courgettes (€18).

Best wine bars & restaurants in Nice

Located on one of the busy side streets leading down into the Old Town, Peixes (Portuguese for ‘fish’) is another concept from local culinary kingpin Armand Crespo that nods to a different type of Mediterranean influence than other spots around town. A string of tables line the white-tiled wall of the narrow space, but the best seats are up at the bar. Watch the cooks prep the seafood-heavy small plates of fresh ceviche and tartare in a scene that would feel right at home in Lisbon.

Near the town hall and the opera house is Peixes – pronounced "pesh" (i.e. "fish" in Portuguese). In its small bistro interior with white and blue tiles and a very Mediterranean feel, fish and seafood cuisine is served in the form of tapas-style dishes (ceviche, carpaccio, fried fish, cod accras). This is a popular place, and spots on the terrace are hotly contested (no reservations!).
