Reviews Summary
Diners praise Restaurant Zum Sauwadala for its authentic Alsatian cuisine and warm, convivial atmosphere, often highlighting the friendly staff and generous portions. While the food is consistently lauded, some guests note significant waits for drinks and service, suggesting patience is key.
"Nice experience of a French restaurant in Mulhouse. I ordered the Fleishnacka. It was served in a broth so the top of the meat/pastry pinwheel was dry and baked and the bottom absorbed the soup. It was fine. I think I would have enjoyed the spaetzle with chicken cream sauce. Nice staff, very welcoming and great ambience. I would come back."

"4 of us went in for dinner on a very busy Wednesday evening. Arrived at our reservation on time and we were quickly sat down. Although menus were given, we didn't get to order drinks and food for another 40mns. It have us time to catch up but it would have been better to do it over drinks. Tarte flambée wasn't the best I've ever had but it was good. My veal kidneys were slightly overcooked to MY liking, but mustard sauce was good, and it was a very generous serving. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food. Besides the long wait to put in an order, once the order went to the kitchen, food quickly appeared. Would definitely give them another chance. Service was gracious and owner very nice. 3 stars for service were simply because of the long wait when we got there. Recommended but expect to be very patient."

"Great place to enjoy traditional cuisine, but was impossible to get a drink. Got a jug of wine, but took 20 minutes to get glasses. Asked for water at the very beginning, took 30 minutes and 3 reminders to get it. Same for water refill. At the end, the meal was nice but accompanied with a lot of irritation."

The Top 10 Restaurants In Mulhouse
This restaurant eschews modernism in favor of tradition, and is all the better for it. The red check tablecloths, antique decorations, and steins hanging from the rafters give Zum Saüwadala a homey feel, and the same can be said for the food. Plenty of hearty Alsatian dishes are on the menu, like pork knuckle, braised ham hock in Munster cheese sauce, and choucroute, which is composed of sauerkraut with potatoes and a variety of salted meats.
