Reviews Summary

Prairial is lauded for its exceptional, artistic, and innovative cuisine that highlights seasonal, local ingredients. Diners consistently praise the meticulous open kitchen, the attentive and friendly service, and the sublime wine pairings that enhance each dish. While overwhelmingly positive, some guests noted the experience can be very filling due to the generous number of courses.

"This is truly a once in a lifetime experience. The food was truly exceptional. The open kitchen design is unique and makes you feel entertained as they craft and plate each course.

As our first Michelin star restaurant we were stunned with how exceptional each course was.

The wine pairing is also truly unique experience. It utilises truly unique wines and flavours to make incredible pairings. It is well worth including.

They asked us for a cocktail aperitif which wasn’t included. And the wine pairing started after the appetisers."

"Terrific dining experience. We did the 6-course tasting with wine pairings and were blown away. Note that the 6 courses didn’t include 3 amuse-bouches that start every meal, meaning we were absolutely stuffed after practically 9 courses of food.

Highlights for us were the 36 hour tomato and stuffed courgette flower, especially with the wine pairings. The wine complimented or contrasted the dishes in perfect ways, either balancing sweeter courses or tempering more acidic courses.

For a fine dining restaurant in Lyon, it offered very good value for money, especially with the wine pairings.

Note a couple of the photos were taken after we had tampered with the plating (or the goat cheese ice cream had started to melt); everything came out pristine."

Kevin McNiece

"Fantastic service from the waiters, with detailed descriptions of each dish. The sommelier selected wines with real expertise, sometimes making atypical choices that paired beautifully with the food. The food was delicious, well thought out, and visually mesmerising, representing the very best the region has to offer. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, complemented by a calming, minimal design."

The best restaurants in Lyon

Wild herbs, flowers and other natural flavours of the Rhône region pack a powerful eco-punch punch at this nature-driven restaurant, in an eco-responsible building a block from the Rhône. Dining is around French oak tables, in an elegant space with earthy mustard-and-taupe palette and decorative green foliage. Chef Gaëtan Gentil matches his inventive dishes – each a surprise – with a bespoke piece of handcrafted earthenware, and head sommelier Céline Boinon is equally creative in her wine pairings.

Restaurants in Lyon and the Alps

Culinary innovation runs deep in this food-centric city, and Gaëtan Gentil is among the new generation chefs shaking things up, with a fruit-and-vegetable-centered cuisine that's as subtle as it is surprising. Unexpected flavor combinations (grapefruit and marigold; chicken and lemon verbena) are refreshingly original and presented with an almost pictorial beauty. With only 10 tables, reasonable prices, and a shiny Michelin star, reservations are a must.

Michelin Restaurants in Lyon - Discover the Best Fine Dining Spots

Chef Gaëtan Gentil's new restaurant in the Confluence neighbourhood is housed in a building that is eco-responsible from floor to ceiling, and that includes the French oak tables. From the open kitchen in the middle of the space, he creates his seasonal cuisine that highlights the produce of the Rhône Valley terroir, using herbs and wild plants to great effect. This creative, instinctive yet carefully thought-out cooking is based on the elevation of ingredients, which are subject to numerous variations and enhanced by sauces packed with flavour.

Food and wine weekend in Lyon

What was in truth a fairly unmemorable lunch followed at Michelin-starred Prairial. Save for an interesting and seasonal mushroom dish we weren’t massively impressed. In fairness, it does have fabulous reviews so I guess we were a bit unlucky that day.
