Whether sitting amid the mahogany interiors of Café Comptoir Abel or the more contemporary stylings of Le Bouchon des Cordeliers, diners should expect punchy flavours at every turn. Onion, butter and offal dominate menus at these family-owned spots, where dishes are often served with a carafe of local wine.

I have enjoyed Chez Hugon and Le Bouchon des Cordeliers, and also Les Trois Cochons, which isn't on that list.

Located just next door to Comptoir Brunet, it would be hard to choose which one of these Lyon Bouchons to try (so you should try them both!). The two restaurants are very different with Coredeliers being much more modern both in interior and in the style of their dishes. Although you will find all of the classics on their menu, this restaurant is definitely more elevated and experimental than some of the other more old-school Bouchon in Lyon.

Ville du regretté Paul Bocuse, cette cité ancestrale dispose d’une tradition de la gastronomie très forte, et c’est probablement l’une des villes de France où l’on mange le mieux. De grands chefs y ont installé leurs enseignes, des petits restaurants très populaires et délicieux s’y trouvent aussi à chaque coin de rue.

Bouchon – the little Lyonnais bistro whose tradition goes back to old times. These are family run businesses, which serve homemade food, Lyonnais specialities, in a friendly, warm atmosphere. They have the similar look and feel and need to follow certain rules to carry a real bouchon certificate which you can see as a sticker in their entrance.

At Le Bouchon des Cordeliers (The Cordeliers Cork), the Lyonnaise quenelle made with pike is served with a delicious lobster sauce. The quenelle is cooked until it is well-done, but not overcooked. While it may not be as light, fluffy, and delicate as some other quenelles, it is still nicely prepared.

This restaurant is recognized as an official bouchon lyonnais by the city (yes, sadly there are some impostors sprinkled throughout Lyon). You can expect traditional Lyonnaise food here, including quenelles and andouillette sausage. The interior blends a homey feel mixed with a modern touch.

Le Bouchon des Cordeliers offers a union of modernity and tradition. This Bouchon Lyonnais unites a modern decoration with some traditional touches (wooden furniture, checked napkins, etc). You can also find it in their cuisine inspired by local traditional dishes and brought up to date.

The restaurant Le Bouchon des Cordeliers had a great ambiance, very friendly serving staff and provided authentic, tasty dishes (all our favourites at a reasonable price). We would definitely eat here again.
