Un petit havre de paix en plein centre ville? Les cloîtres de l’Hôtel-Dieu, leurs graviers qui crissent sous les pas, le vent qui fait vibrer les arbres. Se promener sous les arcades, croiser une ou deux âmes solitaires. #lyon #France #slowlife #romanticizeyourlife #seethebeautyineverydaythings

Reviews Summary

Guests rave about the stunning architecture and the magical atmosphere, especially during holidays. The Le Dôme bar is a highlight for its exquisite cocktails and presentation. While the beauty and historical significance are undeniable, some reviews suggest service can be less detailed than expected at this level.

"We visited the hotel's famous Le Dome bar for heavy hors d'oeuvres on Easter Sunday.

We started with a few hand-crafted cocktails, including the signature Le Dome, an homage to the city's pink pralines, and a classic spicy bloody mary.

We chose the Trilogy of Savory Delight to accompany the cocktails and were impressed with a three-tiered presentation of the snacks, reminiscent of our high tea treats in Zürich the prior weekend. Adding a salad and nuts with olives to round out our soiree. It was a very pleasant experience. The staff recommended a chardonnay to go with the food after our cocktails were gone.

The staff was extremely attentive but gave us privacy throughout our time there.

The space of Le Dome is really stunning. The craftsmanship many centuries ago stands the test of time. The InterContinental Hotel has added modern features to give the space a high degree of class without detracting from the art.

If you want to enjoy a Sunday afternoon or any other time, this is a MUST do stop during your time in Lyon."

Matthew Hughes

"Lovely building. Love the architecture. Nice coffee lounge where the dome is on the first floor."

Alan Teo

"By IHG group intercontinental management! New hotel! 6 years old. It was a children hospital before remodeling! Over 100 years old building! Modernized to a new hotel! service can be improved! Not detailed enough!"

Lyon is Taking Over as France's Global Gastronomy Capital

Lyon has as many museums as a city three times its size, among them Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie de Lyon. Housed in a renovated hôtel-Dieu, this former hospital run by the Catholic Church was designed by Jacques-Germain Soufflot, also the architect of the Pantheon in Paris. The permanent exhibition, "Bonnes tables, belles tables", was put together by chef Régis Marcon of Three Star Régis et Jacques Marcon in Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid, 100km southwest of Lyon.

Eleven things to tick off in Lyon, France

Hôtel-Dieu de Lyon stands proudly along the Rhône, its off-white walls and spectacular dome housing what used to be a hospital until 2010. Hôtel-Dieu has since been transformed into a beautiful space with restaurants, shopping, the Intercontinental Hotel and a gorgeous rooftop bar. Le Grand Réfectoire-L’Officine is found in the old refectory of the Hôtel-Dieu sisters and has a terrace which is the perfect spot for a drink.

Top 30 places to visit in Lyon in 2024 (Lots of photos)

In the heart of Lyon there is an extraordinary complex, the House of God, also known as the Hotel-Dieu. It is a medieval hospital, famous especially for the stay here in the 16th century of the Benedictine monk Francois Rabelais, who wrote his famous work “Gargantua and Pantagruel”. Built in the Middle Ages, the hospital was originally a meeting place for pontiffs and a shelter for travelers.

The Best Hotels in Lyon France in 2025

The Intercontinental Hôtel-Dieu is in my opinion the best choice for visitors to Lyon in 2023. Ideally located on the banks of the Rhone River, it is perfectly situated to provide guests with great views over the river or the palatial courtyard, and a super convenient location. It's centrally located and makes a perfect base to navigate the whole city.

Four Days in Lyon | A Guide for First-time Visitors

We stepped off the Rhône Express from the airport, bleary-eyed after a 6am flight, onto a sunlit platform. Plants and trees lined the forecourt, casting Ripley-esque shadows on the wall behind as a Gil Scott-Heron tune played over the tanoy. As train stations go, this one was pretty cool.
