What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bloempot offers a creative and innovative dining experience focused on local, seasonal ingredients. Diners praise the inventive dishes, friendly service, and unique atmosphere. However, some find the surprise menu and wine pairings to be not entirely as expected or a bit disappointing in certain aspects.
"Fantastic surprise menu for €60 created using local ingredients. There’s an option to get alcoholic or non alcoholic pairings as well
This was my favourite meal after 2 months of travel around Europe. The food was perfectly cooked and creative.
Hats off to the chef! I highly recommend this place!"

"We went here for dinner on a Friday night. The venue is great. There’s a beautiful entrance that leads to the restaurant.
We decided on the full experience. Basically a surprise menu with drinks. We had a great evening and the food is great. Some things weren’t as expected though. Although it was a full experience, a drink with the first and last course wasn’t included. That was an extra €50 we didn’t expect to spend when we booked as it was supposed to be a full experience. All other courses did come with a pairing. The drinks were mostly wine, except for one beer. I like beer, but this beer was pretty bad. Lastly we were a bit surprised that we had to share a small piece of meat as the main course.
Overall we had a great evening out and this restaurant ended up being some great value for money. I would definitely recommend trying Bloempot at least once."

"Great restaurant with good service and an imaginative and interesting menu. The savoury courses were excellent but the sweet courses a little disappointing. The alcohol pairing was very different to the norm."

Top 5 favorite restaurants for locals: Lille
This Flanders-inspired restaurant puts a blind trust in nature’s ingredients as well as its suppliers, so much so that they even call their evening prix fixe les yeux fermés, which literally means “eyes closed.” And that faith in what nature brings has given chef Florent Ladeyn quite a bit of notoriety. Top Chef finalist in 2013, his loss certainly didn’t slow him down. He opened Le Bloempot and also won a Michelin star for his family restaurant Auberge du Vert Mont in a commune just outside of Lille.
10 Brilliant places to eat and drink in Lille
Bloempot is Flemish for “The Flowerpot” and this is one of the newest, trendiest restaurants in Lille and THE hotspot for foodies. Opened by French Top Chef finalist (a very popular French TV cooking show) Florent Ladeyn, it is housed in a former carpentry workshop in picturesque rue des Bouchers. It’s adorned with recycled, re-loved items, a seat from an old train carriage looks at home, an old coal scuttle serves as a champagne bucket with style, its an eclectic mix but the real star is the food.
Lille city guide: your weekend break sorted
The brick walls and corrugated roof may look like the backstreet garage it once was, but the food is all about terroir, a 150km sourcing radius, to be precise. Dishes are creative — tuna tartare with barbecued cabbage; chicken with fried lentils, barbecued squash and ginger; quince sorbet with caramelised beer popcorn — but never precious, and the atmosphere is fun rather than cheffy. Try the “surprise” menu (six-course tasting menu £52, mains from £13; bloempot.fr).
Lille: 5 different ways to experience it
For typically Flemish yet inventive dining, try Le Bloempot by chef Florent Ladeyn (22 Rue des Bouchers). At Chez Mon Cousin (282 Avenue de Dunkerque), chef Nicolas Pourcheresse has travelled the world in search of the most surprising flavours. And at Le Rouge Barre (50 Rue de la Halle), innovative Steven Ramon beckons you in for a delicious tasting menu amidst a classic Lille décor of bricks and whitewashed stone.
This newcomer to Lille's restaurant scene is owned by Florent Ladeyn (finalist in Top Chef, France's favourite televised cookery competition) and his friend Kevin Rolland. The name bloempot translates to 'flowerpot' and the dining experience is suitably rustic. Aside from the exposed brickwork in this industrial-looking building, there's a back courtyard that only serves a set menu.
A Culinary Journey Through Northern France
French Top Chef finalist (season 4) opened this restaurant on Rue des Bouchers (a street of bistros for foodies). It offers outdoor dining on its cute, fairy-lit terrace or indoor dining in this old carpentry workshop, which has kept the exposed brick to give a rustic dining experience. Bloempot prides itself on its menu of local products from organic or wild farming.

My permanent favorite is le Bloempot — I call it the restaurant of happiness. The second restaurant of charismatic chef Florent Ladeyn is the most joyful spot in Lille. The pretty and low-key dining room, all wood and exposed brick, is just as cool, authentic, and welcoming as the chef.
