What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Maison Fantin Latour offers a high-quality dining experience, praised for its Michelin-starred gastronomy, unique foraged ingredients, and attentive, English-friendly service. While many guests rave about the creative and visually stunning dishes, some note that certain dessert options can be disappointing, and the wine list might be limited. The atmospheric garden setting and the chef's dedication to sourcing local ingredients add to the overall charm.
"My first time at the brasserie Fantin Latour for lunch, it was an exceptional experience with dishes that were tastefully presented. The taste of each new dish was exceptionally curated with local ingredients, picked by the chef himself in the Alps. There was a story about the chef mountain climbing every Monday to collect some herbs, it added to the charm of the place. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere even though we were in the first room near the entrance with lots of people coming in and out. I'll come back for more"

"Indeed worthy of the Michelin star.
Food 5/5
The creamy mushroom tart from the amuse-bouche was already off to a great start and put us in a good mood. The presentation and execration of every course was excellent. My favorite was the pigeon course, which was so juicy and gentle and flavorful. I also loved the scallop course, which was as visually stunning as it was delicious. (However, the decorative juniper berry bushes did poke and hurt me.)
My only criticism would be that the portion of the ratatouille course was slightly too large, given how many courses there are. My mom and I were both too full towards the end and couldn’t finish the dessert.
Speaking of dessert, I adore the restaurant’s commitment in sourcing good/unique ingredients. For the meadow flower used in the dessert, apparently, the chef would take a few ppl from the team to hike up a mountain to collect them twice a week during the summer. They’d get depart at 4am and get there at 6am. The chef would also bring some ham and cheese and have a picnic with the team afterwards. They’d dry several kilos of the flower each season, enough to last them through the winter. Apparently, they’d gather wild lavender sometimes too. I’m glad that I asked about the flowers and got this interesting story!
Service 4.8/5
First of all, this place is very English-friendly! Our waitress also told us “I wrote this menu in English for you”, which made it sound like she prepared an English menu just for us right there and then. If that’s the case, then I’m very impressed and really appreciate it.
Everyone there was very friendly—i especially loved one guy’s enthusiasm when he explained our course to us (he also told us the flower story).
My only complaint would be that the wait between courses was a bit long sometimes. And, for some reason, many people came later than us but finished earlier. (Maybe they all ordered a shorter menu?)
We arrived at 7pm and left at about 10:45pm.
Atmosphere 4.5/5
The entrance with the stream/fountain was particularly atmospheric. The room was nice too—your standard dim, fine dining setup, nothing too special, but that was enough. We also love the little bird figurines on our table."

"We ate at the terrace during mid day, the place is absolutely beautiful. Food was average, lunch menu was way better quality/price than a la carte. Service is slow. One of our main course was missing the truffle sauce and the waiter insisted that the sauce was on the plate and that's it. The final bill had approx +100€ mistake. Perhaps coffee offered or apologises like normally in this level places but here they would not do that. Strange experience over all."

A local’s guide to Grenoble, France: spectacular night skiing and great nightlife | France holidays
There is only one Michelin-starred restaurant in town: chef Stéphane Froidevaux offers an affordable brasserie menu at lunchtime and fine dining in the evening at his sumptuous villa, Le Fantin Latour. But young chefs working with organic, seasonal products are emerging at contemporary bistronomique addresses such as Le Rousseau.
The Best Restaurants in Grenoble
Set in a nineteenth century townhouse, this restaurant boasts a menu offering many fine dining options with the choice of sitting inside or around one of the candle lit tables positioned in Le Fantin Latour’s well groomed, tree-shaded gardens. Depending on how much you’re prepared to fork out, Le Fantin Latour has a selection of menus ranging from twenty euros up to around eighty five euros. Dishes include fried duck foie gras, slow-steamed cod, and Hokkaido squash soup.
Where to eat, drink and stay
A more ‘fine dining’ approach is taken at Michelin-starred Le Fantin Latour (soon to be renamed after head chef Stéphane Froidevaux) – wild mint brings fragrant notes to the lemon granita that contrasts a rich, creamy goats cheese and you’re likely to find foraged mushrooms adding umami to the elegant starters. In good weather you’ll be invited to dine in the elegant courtyard garden, where you can watch the resident bees going about their important business.
Grenoble: France’s Eco-Friendly, Nature Capital
Le Fantin Latour is another must-visit restaurant, situated in a 19th-century mansion with resident cockerel, hens, rabbits, frogs and bees, too. In 2017, the Michelin guide said that this address is “sensitive” and “full of character,” especially with Michelin-star chef Stéphane Froidevaux behind the magic. With nothing but fresh, seasonal products in use, visitors’ taste buds are in good hands here.
