We wanted to go to le Vauban restaurant which offers some of the best value for money in Antibes, but unfortunately it was fully booked so we had to find another place. A restaurant I used to go often when I worked in Mougins is le Brûlot, famous for their magrets de canard cooked in a woodfire oven, but it was also closed today at lunch time. Considering Antibes is quite a popular tourist destination, having the largest marina in Europe, its old town and fortress, there are quite a few tourist trap restaurants so we were a little worried.

If the ones mentioned above are a little too pricey for your taste, some affordable yet equally brilliant French restaurants that are a must-try in Antibes are Le Rocher, Le Zinc, Le Petit, and Le Vauban. One of the best features of all dining places in this town is the spectacular ambience offered in each restaurant, whether it’s a high-end one or a budget-friendly option.

If you ask a French local their favourite place in Antibes, there’s an excellent chance they will say "Le Vauban". One of the many restaurants in the old town, this restaurant has a strong feel of the special occasion about it, with white tablecloths, intimate lighting and silver service. You dress up to come here, but it’s reasonably priced, with a set menu for 35 euro.

Dinner at Le Vauban is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a French menu that evolves with the seasons. Located on a lively street in old Antibes, Le Vauban showcases dishes like amberjack carpaccio with citrus fruits and caviar and low-temperature guinea fowl ballotine. Reservations are recommended.

Le menu dégustation est vraiment très sympa, c’est un accord mets/vins “surprise” composé de 2 entrées, 1 poisson, 1 viande et 1 dessert avec des vins sélectionnés par le sommelier afin qu’ils s’accordent parfaitement. Si vous pouvez “casser votre tirelire”, je vous le conseille !

Chef Thierry Aix describes his restaurant as "semi-gourmet". Which means diners enjoy the extravagant flavors and presentation of an exclusive gastronomic eatery—but at affordable prices. The cuisine is seasonal, contemporary and very creative.

Le Vauban is another fantastic restaurant in the centre of the old town. They serve up really good, refined Provençal classics. Don’t expect a modern vibe here – the decor is very old school and classical in the small restaurant.

A creative blend of traditional French cuisine with a twist. The service was a tad slow, leaving room for improvement. I recommend it for the food, but ensure you’re not in a rush.
