This quaint traditional Finnish restaurant is inspired by the forests of Finland, with wooden tables and chairs, eclectic table settings, and cozy candles lighting the rooms. I didn't try these, not quite my cup of tea, but my brother and dad were thoroughly impressed.

So, I’m not a fancy restaurant person at all, so I was a little skeptical when Rachel and I made dinner reservations at Savotta (like I kept asking Rachel if we really had to make reservations, haha). But guys, I think Savotta might have been my food awakening. Or at least now I get why sometimes it’s worth going to a nice restaurant instead of eating lentils for dinner every night.

I’m not normally someone who always has to try local food but this restaurant is a best Helsinki restaurant gem!. It was a fantastic insight into Finnish cuisine and the ingredients were all local. Vegetarians and vegans: please don’t listen when I say that they even served Finnish bear.

If I had to pick one word to describe Savotta, it would be cozy. I can’t be sure if its because we ducked in much earlier than our reservation to warm up of because my meal tasted similar to one of my childhood favorites. It was a hearty meal, exactly what you’d crave on a cold day.

But besides the stellar views, it is an eclectic, homey, authentic place where you’ll definitely want to make a reservation. We almost skipped out on a starter, but then we saw the nova salmon arrive at the table next to us and decided it was a must. The dish did not disappoint.

A favourite amongst visitors to the city who want a rustic Finnish food experience. There are menu options or à lacarte dishes available. The views from inside the restaurant of the Helsinki Cathedral are wonderful, in the summer the courtyard terrace is really lovely.

One night we had dinner at Restaurant Savotta, which has traditional Finnish food and a great vibe. The elk burger was awesome, salmon soup was great, and the reindeer was good (though not as good as what we got at Lasipalatsi). Awesome gin & tonic too.

Savotta – hands down the best restaurant I ate at in Helsinki. It has a gorgeous traditional cuisine and the service was second to none. I booked in advance (which I strongly advise as they book out) and also gave my dietary requirements then too.
