Reviews Summary

Diners rave about Olde Hansa's unparalleled medieval atmosphere, with many highlighting the immersive decor, costumed staff, and live music as key draws. While some find the prices steep, the unique experience and well-prepared, historically inspired dishes, particularly game meats and house beers, are often considered worth the splurge. Service is generally praised for its authenticity and helpfulness, though some note the menu can be challenging to read.

"A really nice place to have a meal. Everything is medieval style, from the staff outfits to the decorations. You can eat in or outside. The inside was dimly lit, which impacted one of my companions, so we elected to eat outside. It was a chilly evening, but warm blankets were offered.
The wait staff were friendly and polite. They answered our queries. During the meal they played music and sang.
There is a wide variety of food on offer, with some interesting choices such as bear. The menu was written in cursive style, which was quite hard to read.
Prices were expensive for some of the meals, but it was worth the price as the food was delicious, there were good portions, and the medieval theme was fun. There were cheaper options available on the menu if money is tight.
The food was quickly served, and it was delicious. I fully recommend this restaurant and would definitely eat here again.
There is limited access for people who use a wheelchair. I would advise calling to ensure an accessible seating area is reserved."

"The atmosphere, the food, staff and the language that the staff spoke (my lady, credit card = magical card) was amazing. Really takes you back in time with its atmosphere and fabulous food. We tried bear, deer and elk. They were all incredibly good. For beer I would strongly recommend the house beer with honey. As for desserts we asked for their favorites and ate apple pie and rose pudding which were also really good.
Ps: if you have Tallinn Card there is 10% discount."

"I had the pleasure of dining at Olde Hansa in Tallinn, and it was an unforgettable experience! The food was absolutely delicious – full of rich, medieval flavors, carefully prepared and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is truly one of a kind – from the candlelit interior to the period costumes of the staff, every detail transports you back in time.

If you're visiting Tallinn, I highly recommend digging into your coin pouch and spending a few gold pieces on this unique experience. It's well worth it!"

The 10 Best Restaurants In Tallinn's Old Town, Estonia

If you want something a little more unusual, head to Olde Hansa on the Town Hall Square. This restaurant’s theme is the Hanseatic League, a confederation of merchant guilds that dominated the Northern Coast of Europe from the 13th to the 17th century. To recreate this epoch’s atmosphere, Olde Hansa puts on medieval musical performances for guests, and all members of staff wear period-appropriate costumes.

Period-garbed servers labour beneath large plates of game meats in medieval-themed Olde Hansa, once a Hanseatic merchant's house, now the place to indulge in a gluttonous feast. If it all sounds a bit cheesy, take heart – the chefs have researched historically authentic dishes from Tallinn's medieval glory days. Expect such exotica as boar, elk and bear (all sustainable meats, apparently).

To top off this Christmas in Tallinn is a transformation back in time as you experience a medieval banquet at the Olde Hansa restaurant. Under the glittering sparkle of wax candles, casting light over the tapestry filled walls, musicians play melodic tunes on traditional instruments like loots to set the tone for the meal. This enclave into medieval living is a truly unique cultural experience, and the cuisine includes Baltic treasures such as sauerkraut and game sausages made of bear, wild boar and elk.

The 12 Most Famous Restaurants In Tallinn, Estonia

In the heart of the Old Town, Olde Hansa transports diners back to the medieval ages with an enchanting experience that is unmatched anywhere else in Tallinn. This historically themed restaurant is famous for its dedication to recreating the foods and atmosphere of 15th-century Hansa League traders. With costumed waitstaff, candlelit tables, and live period music, the ambiance is as much a draw as the menu of hearty, rustic fare, such as spiced wines and meats cooked over an open fire.

8 Best Places To Eat In Tallinn

From the moment I walked into Olde Hansa with the minstrels playing above the guests with their lute and flute I knew I was in for a treat far beyond what I had anticipated. They led me upstairs, to a room filled with paintings on the walls done in medieval style, wooden chairs, everything candle lit and rustic. A woman dressed in modest peasant garb greeted me, and promptly brought me a water, and warned me of a great plague ravaging the land.

One Day in Tallinn - The Perfect Itinerary for Tallinn’s old town

Olde Hansa Restaurant is a Medieval style restaurant located in the centre of Tallinn’s old town. The restaurant decor follows that of a Medieval tavern, while the staff are all dressed in traditional costume and the menu has some really unique dishes on it that were likely served in this era. We were a little skeptical when entering that it would be more of a gimmick than anything else but were actually very impressed by the food.

A Foodie’s Guide to Tallinn Restaurants

Entering Olde Hansa is like stepping back in time… You’ll be greeted by a costume-clad waiter (or wench) who will speak to you in appropriately olde English (I can only assume the staff affect some kind of ancient Estonian for the local guests). Beer is infused with honey or herbs and comes in clay jugs. Lighting probably isn’t actually by candlelight but it feels like it is.

Time traveling in Tallinn's restaurants

Great care has been taken to transport you back to the Middle Ages as soon as you step inside — a rustic interior, strolling musicians, and long tables with wooden benches. The food is prepared according to 15th-century recipes. You won't find potatoes on the menu as they didn't arrive in Europe until much later, but you can have your fill of bear stew, barley, and mead.
