What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners consistently praise El Charrúa for its high-quality, well-prepared Argentine meats, with many calling the steak the best they've ever had. The atmosphere is often described as amazing and the service professional. While generally excellent, some reviews mention occasional attentiveness issues with staff and one unusual incident involving a disruptive patron.
"We had a lovely time in this elegant restaurant. The food was good, the meat was good quality and well prepared and the desert (Sambayón a la Marsala con nuez) was so delicate and surprising that I was sorry I had no extra stomach for more :) The prices are in the upper range. They also have some large wine selections, but if you feel intimidated or just in the mood for a bit of wine, they also have smaller wine servings."

"THE BEST STEAK IVE EVER EATEN. So glad I came here the service couldn’t have been better. They give you bread, dip and beans before you’ve even ordered. I then had the sirloin steak 350g which was honestly bigger than my head with the best peppercorn sauce (I think had red wine in it too which was delicious!) and a kind of fondant potato with cheese which was amazing. Honestly the best meal I’ve had in Argentina and definitely the best steak I’ve ever had! Would come back every week if I lived here. 100% recommend!"

"Good food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant is very large and crowded but not too noisy. The mixed grill is good and, above all, plentiful, but there were only a few cuts of actual meat and mostly offal. The flan is fantastic, one of the best I've ever tasted.
There are many wines, but there is no wine list: you have to go to the large shelf where they are stored, choose a bottle and ask one of the staff for the price, with sometimes absurd but amusing results: sometimes they don't know the price and frantic consultations ensue with little result, other times they give you a price that is different on the bill (but they are always ready to correct it!). All in all, recommended ."

Salta's 10 Best Estancias & Local Restaurants
El Charrua is a bustling establishment right in the center of Salta, within a few minutes walk of the Museo de la Cuidad and the Museo Histórico del Norte. The menu features traditional regional fare and the kitchen creates dishes in which depth of flavor is paramount: chicken can come cooked in cognac or a creamy mushroom sauce, and the parrillada classica for two includes three different kinds of meat and twice as many cuts. On the wine front, El Charrua has a well-stocked selection from both the Salta and Mendoza regions of the country, meaning there are plenty of combinations to try with the ravioli, cannelloni, ribs or grilled seafood.
