Apollo is one of those restaurants where you can show up at almost any hour of the day and have a really good meal, whether that’s for breakfast or an afternoon snack. Whenever you come, order a few things at a time, like the goat cheese omelet with herbs, the smoked salmon—which comes peppered with capers and semi-dried tomatoes—or the steak tartare and creamy burrata that’s best mopped up with a few slices of sourdough. Apollo is located in a cobblestone courtyard, and while the patio is a lovely place to sit on a sunny day, don’t discount the indoor seating, where you can watch Copenhagen’s cool, creative crowd stream in and out for morning coffees and after-work glasses of wine.

Tucked into the courtyard of the historic Kunsthal Charlottenborg, the exhibition gallery at the Royal Danish Academy of Art, Apollo Bar & Kantine is a hidden Copenhagen treasure. The interior has soaring ceilings and great Danish design elements, including Poul Henningsen lights, as well as plaster-cast statues from the surrounding museum. Daily lunch specials attract students from the Academy; there's also breakfast, dinner—homemade spaghetti, grilled octopus with chimichurri—and teatime treats (don't miss the lemon meringue pie).

When the Danish chef Frederik Bille Brahe took over Apollo Bar & Kantine in 2017, it was an unassuming museum cafe where a person might grab a quick sandwich after seeing one of the contemporary art exhibitions at the Kunsthal Charlottenborg, set within the same grand 17th-century complex in central Copenhagen.

I am most regularly found having meetings in Apollo Bar during the day – it’s attached to Kunsthal Charlottenburg in the most touristed part of town, Nyhavn, but you wouldn’t know it when you’re in its quiet courtyard. I recommend the banana bread.

This hidden gem inside an art school is all about the good vibes. Apollo Bar’s courtyard terrace surrounded by ivy-covered buildings is definitely the place to be if you want to leisurely sip a cappuccino after a day of walking around the city. Be sure to ask for their rhubarb mixed drink if you’re looking for something a little extra fun.

Apollo Bar has recently made its way onto my list of favorites. Nestled in a building across from Nyhavn, in a quiet courtyard, this café offers the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee in the autumn, surrounded by the red ivy cascading down the brick walls. This discovery has won me over, and I'm delighted to share it with you.

If you want a brunch spot with a view, head to Apollo Bar & Kantine. This cafe is located in the stunning Charlottenborg Palace and has a beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the palace gardens. The atmosphere here is lively and fun, with a mix of locals and tourists enjoying the delicious brunch dishes.

Apollo Bar: A bit overlooked, this bar is in the Kunsthal Charlottenborg (Directly translated – Art Hall Charlottenborg) and does simple, healthy and delicious breakfasts. Located between Nyhavn and The Royal Theatre, it does not get more central. Local, relaxed and somewhat arty!

Apollo | One that’s been long on my list and now I have finally visited. Not your average brunch fare or your typical brunch spot, which is maybe why I like it so much. I even needed instructions for how to eat our artichoke globe – yes I had to ask the waiter!.

Our last stop on this whirlwind culinary tour of Copenhagen is Apollo Bar which came to our attention when we saw this article in The New York Times. That article is about dinners at Apollo. We didn’t go for dinner.
