In the afternoon it's all about the homemade cakes and desserts, and the evenings feature à la carte meals such as slow-roasted duck leg with red cabbage and bread dumplings, as well as degustation menus.

One of the best of Prague's traditional turn-of-the-century-style grand cafés, the Savoy is popular day and night for its brunches, coffees, Czech classics, and pastries. For luxury lovers, we recommend to check out Café Savoy in Prague, within sight of Kampa, the Vltava River and Petřín Lookout Tower, and while hipsters are sure to love Vnitroblock in Holešovice, fans of the cute and colourful design of the golden 1960s must visit Kaaba Café in Mánesova ulice; or, for an unusual experience, try the legendary Fanta's Cafe right at the main railway station. Prague also has Bitcoin Coffee, IF Café in the Werich Villa with its first-class patisserie and café Pražírna (Roastery), where, besides savouring their own selection of roasted coffee, you can also buy a pack to take home to enjoy with friends or family.

This cafe place is perfect for a special occasion, because of its lovely interior and (for me) because of the prices too. The food is beautifully presented and taste lovely, although I was a bit miffed by their idea of French toast (which seemed to be more soaked in a sweet syrup than in egg mixture, which should be fried). The French set breakfast (500 CZK) is very special and includes croissants filled with scrambled eggs, truffles and sausages, but you can also have the Continental set breakfast (200 CZK) or full English Breakfast (425 CZK).

Up until Mysak reopened by the same restaurant group, Café Savoy was our go to for Czech pastries, and they still make the best vetrnik in town in our book. With their recent shift to a more restaurant experience, the pastries have been sidetracked a bit, but a view of their pastry shop with a chandelier next to the bathrooms is still one of the most calming views in the city (and yes, there is a chair you can sit on). We’d go to the Savoy if we craved something traditionally Czech and found ourselves on the Castle side of the river.

Pork and bread dumplings, goulash, and beef sirloin in cream sauce are the typical Czech dishes most visitors encounter while dining in Prague, but for a dish you likely won’t get anywhere else (at least, for dinner), order ovocné knedlíky at Café Savoy in Malá Strana. These fruit dumplings are made with seasonal fruit encased in fluffy dough, and topped with melted butter and freshly ground gingerbread. The cafe itself makes you feel as though you are stepping back in time, with its marble-top tables and beautiful ceiling work.

Cafe Savoy is a lovely cafe – restaurant with a long history and great atmosphere. Dating back to 1983, it was a favorite haunt of local intellectuals, including Franz Kafka. However, I ran into a celiac couple on our last night in Prague, who said that they loved Cafe Savoy and they had the gluten free bread. Since then, I have seen some mixed reviews online regarding gluten free options – my advice is to go in with low expectations, and come here for the ambience and not the food.

Café Savoy ($$): This 19th-century restaurant & coffee bar came highly recommended both by Insta friends and in online forums. Unfortunately, we ran out of time to try their food, so stopped there for dessert and coffee.

Before going for breakfast in this noble establishment, I highly recommend booking a table, especially if you are here for the weekend. Café Savoy is extremely popular, which is no coincidence!. Their continental breakfast looks really tempting, but for a proper Czech experience, you should try Breakfast Savoy.

Breakfast is one of my favourite meals, and it was particularly well done at Cafe Savoy. They have options of cooked breakfasts as well as more continental style breakfasts, which is what we went for. I love a boiled egg and bread basket, as it is something pretty much no one has on their menus in Melbourne!

The lovely Café Savoy is my top pick (although a tiny bit pricy, but the atmosphere is worth it!), but you’ll see them on the menus of most restaurants that serve traditional Czech food.
