On the other side of Old Havana, half a dozen small eateries have cropped up on the pedestrianized street of Calle Chacón, such as the motorcycle–themed Chacón 162, where a Harley once owned by Che Guevara's son hangs over the bar, and the brand-new Antojos which serves traditional Cuban food—a rarity on an island where chefs still often defer to Italian or French tastes. A few steps away, Color Cafe has a tapas bar in the street front space and a chic clothing boutique in the back, with regular fashion shows to entertain the mojito-sipping clientele.

If you find yourself strolling Old Havana with a sudden craving for Cuban food, make your way to a cobblestone side street called Callejón Epsada, or “sword alley,” and keep walking until you see the sign for Antojos. Opened in 2019, it’s a casual restaurant that lets you smoke either outside under the umbrellas or upstairs in its open-air loft. Here, mounds of shredded pork are served on small disks of fried plantain (tostones campesinos), and the croquettes—either chicken or fish—are some of the creamiest you’re likely to come across in Havana, Old or otherwise.

Very close to Plazuela del Ángel, in Callejón de Espada, a charming street in Old Havana, you will find Cravings. This palate will fascinate you, because you can sit down to have a snack at the tables that are located in the middle of the alley to recharge your batteries after walking through the colonial city, under large umbrellas that provide exquisite shade, or inside, where a simple decoration , creates a very cozy atmosphere. It is almost a tradition of the house to take a photo in the interior seat that reproduces the style of an old Chevrolet.

One really nice breakfast place is Antojos, a super small space with bright red parasols on the outside seating and a funky interior on the inside. Antojos opens at 11 a.m., so it is not for the earliest risers, but they serve a brunch special between 11 and 12 noon every day, including fresh juice, plus coffee if you need it. The service is impeccable, and the food is delicious, so for a late breakfast or early lunch, Antojos is a great choice to start your day.

Antojos is the perfect restaurant to go enjoy a traditional Cuban dish in a very authentic and quintessential Cuban atmosphere. Cuban restaurant Antojos enjoys an enviable position on popular Alley Espada with red parasols and a string of lights above tables streetside. The menu is huge encouraging you to return which you’ll want to. Drinks are generous and served in cut glass with plenty of pretty garnish, the complimentary pork scratchings are the best in the city, and the pork tacos are winning.

Antojos was recommended to us by a local, and luckily we had the pleasure of checking them out on our last night in Cuba. With pretty repetitive menus in the city, Antojos was the one restaurant that we really felt the menu had new and exciting things to offer. We'd recommend getting a few dishes to split, and definitely to get the croquetas!

Antojos is a hip and trendy restaurant serving classic Cuban fare, located on the edge of Habana Vieja, Havana’s old town. This area, located near the Museum of the Revolution, is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Havana to explore. Located in the center of Old Havana, Antojos does all the Cuban classic dishes well. Whether you go for the ropa vieja, beans and rice, or barbequed meats, you won’t be disappointed with the options here. The croquetas are absolutely delicious as is the arroz con leche, so save room for dessert!

$$-$$$Antojos is one of those places you must visit on your trip to Cuba, it is simply one of the best restaurants in Old Havana. Decorated with a retro vibe and walls that have art to admire for days. They constantly have promotions and it’s recommended you make a reservation to dine here.
