Reviews Summary

Bokeria Kitchen & Wine is celebrated for its stylish ambiance and exceptional service, with many praising attentive staff and unique decor. While dishes like the cod spring roll and Caesar salad receive high marks, some reviews indicate inconsistency in flavor and execution for other items, particularly mains and starters like ceviche. Price is noted as being on the higher side, positioning it as a treat-yourself destination.

"We did not just have a meal here but really a full on experience. Marco, our waiter, was friendly, knowledgeable, and perfectly attentive. Each bite of food was delicious and Marco’s Croatian wine recommendation paired incredibly. The atmosphere in the small streets of Split cannot be beat. This place is a must try!

We started with the burrata and then enjoyed the pasta and the lamb shank for our mains. Would recommend all three!"

"We had a very disappointing experience here and definitely will not return.

For starters, we ordered the soup and the codfish spring roll. The spring roll was the only decent thing we had crispy, flavorful, and well done. Unfortunately, the soup was a complete letdown. It was bland and absolutely no richness or depth you’d expect from a restaurant charging these prices.

For mains, I had the squid ink risotto and my husband had the Angus beef. After our starters, we were left waiting almost 20 minutes for the mains. The risotto was dull, lacking any balance or seasoning, and had an unpleasant aftertaste. The Angus beef was chewy and poorly cooked, paired with mashed potatoes that were supposed to be elevated with truffle oil. As a country that actually produces truffles, this version was shockingly below standard flat, oily, and with none of the fragrant quality you’d expect.

Service made the experience even worse. We were given a completely different menu from another table, which left us questioning whether there was some form of bias or discrimination happening. And when we asked for the bill, a female server simply pointed her finger at my original (male) server, refusing to assist and continuing her personal chat instead. Completely unprofessional, dismissive, and unacceptable for a place that positions itself as “above average.”

Overall: long waiting times, overpriced dishes, inconsistent menus, poor service, and food that is far below the mark in flavor and execution. One good spring roll can’t save an otherwise awful dining experience."

"Bokeria in Split is a beautiful restaurant with a stylish and inviting atmosphere that immediately makes you feel like you’re in a special place. The presentation of the dishes is excellent — everything looks amazing and carefully prepared. However, while some plates taste just as good as they look, others don’t quite deliver the same “wow” factor once you try them. Prices are on the higher side compared to other spots in Split, so it’s definitely more of a treat-yourself place. Overall, Bokeria is worth visiting for the ambiance and experience, but not every dish lives up to its presentation."

How To Make The Most Of 48 Hours In Split Croatia

All types of food seem to be available but Bokeria Kitchen & Wine still manages to stand out from the pack. Heavily inspired by Barcelona’s La Boqueria market, the walls of this chic wood-floored restaurant are covered in bottles of wine and liquor, giving thirsty diners plenty of choices when it comes to an accompanying beverage. Mediterranean cuisine dominates the menu with a focus on seasonal ingredients, many of which come from the very market that you explored earlier.

Split restaurants | Restaurants

The owners of Bokeria, the Bokavšek family, are at pains to explain that the reason for naming their establishment after the famous market in Barcelona was to bring a spirit of diversity to Split. Judging by the growing popularity of this place since opening in 2014, that’s what they’ve achieved. Bokeria is set in a building that once was a hardware store, and site of a few failed ventures before someone finally managed to fill this vast space.

Named after Barcelona’s world famous La Boqueria market, Bokeria is one of the first establishments in the city that sought to combine the concept of a high-end restaurant and a wine bar. Notable for its spectacular interior design that has made it one of the most recognizable locations in the city, as well as a regular destination for international celebrities visiting Split, Bokeria’s signature take on the pan-Mediterranean cuisine and its extensive wine list promises a good time for all wine lovers, even if you are just visiting for a glass or two of some of the finest Dalmatian wines and a plateful of Dalmatian cheese and prosciutto.

5 Authentic Restaurants To Try in Split, Croatia — Posh, Broke, & Bored

I'm not a fan of rejection, but when it comes to being turned away from a restaurant for being extremely popular and busy I'm only made all the more determined to see what the fuss is about. Despite its ancient Old Town surroundings Bokeria is a young restaurant that has never seen an empty table at dinnertime since it opened in 2014 even though it's huge by Split standards: with double-height ceilings, a mezzanine dining area, and outdoor seating. The food is Mediterranean, made with seasonal ingredients supplied from the local produce and fish markets accompanied by a fine selection of Croatian wines.

The Best Restaurants in Split, Croatia

Bokeria is a stylish restaurant and bar serving classic flavours of the Mediterranean as well as beautiful Dalmatian dishes. It quickly became one of our favourites and we visited on several occasions during our stay in Croatia, during the high season (June – end of September) it was very difficult to just walk in and grab a table, so if you are wanting to visit for lunch or dinner, make sure you reserve well in advance. Some of our favourite dishes included the gin-infused gazpacho, the swordfish steak with sweet root vegetable puree and glazed beetroot and the grilled octopus.

It would be a bad idea to miss the place that offers good contemporary Mediterranean food, Bokeria, where chef Željka Bogdan prepares dishes using fresh ingredients from nearby farmer’s markets or the fish market. Although they have been among top restaurants for years, they hired additional staff this year to be able to give their guests an even tastier way to start the day. When it comes to nights, they made sure that the nights were comfortable by stepping up their Croatian wine game, which now includes more than 150 wines.

Taking its inspiration from Barcelona’s famed market, La Boqueira, Bokeria offers Croatian-style tapas dishes as well as more substantial Mediterranean-inspired dishes in a modern, beautifully designed two-storey venue. The design is one of the best in Split and features include a mosaic tiled bar, hanging jamon, a remarkable chandelier and an Aperol wall. It feels like a café during the day and a wine bar at night, and the focus is squarely on fresh, seasonal ingredients, sourced from the nearby produce and fish markets.

Split, Croatia: From Gritty Port to Posh Resort – Camerons Travels

For dining, my big find this trip was the trendy Bokeria (in the Old Town at Domaldova 8). Its decor, like its name, finds inspiration in the bustling Barcelona covered market: a big, bright, boisterous interior with soaring ceilings, legs of prosciutto dangling over the bar, and a wall of Aperol bottles arranged like an art installation. While I found the service so-so, the setting offers Split’s cuisine scene the refreshing jolt it has desperately needed.

Bokeria was one of my first real introductions to Croatian wine — and honestly, there couldn’t have been a better setting for it. The space feels like something lifted from Barcelona or Milan: stylish, buzzy, and effortlessly cool, with soaring ceilings, a wall of wine, and an open kitchen that anchors the energy. It’s right in the heart of the Old Town, and while it’s popular, it still manages to feel curated rather than chaotic.
