What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Taj Mahal Old Town offers an authentic Bosnian dining experience in the heart of Dubrovnik, praised for its flavorful traditional dishes, especially Ćevapi and baklava. Diners appreciate the warm ambiance and friendly service. However, some find portion sizes small for the price and a few reviews mention inconsistent food quality and less-than-ideal service, suggesting reservations are essential.
"We had a great dinner here, memorable. This restaurant was Michelin-recommended in the past, and it shows in the quality. For three people, including drinks and tip, we paid a very reasonable €150. We shared our food and it was good portions. The food was outstanding, the flavors were perfectly balanced, and the service was absolutely on point.
When we arrived for our reservation, there was already a line of people waiting—so definitely make a reservation in advance for dinner. The atmosphere was warm and lively, with live accordion music and a stray kitten that added a lovely local touch.
I’d definitely come back and highly recommend it to anyone visiting. A great value for such experience."

"We had dinner here on our 1st evening in Dubrovnik…and, wow, what a great start to a wonderful week here! We opted to eat indoors right by the door and felt the excitement of this bustling restaurant. Very popular spot in Dubrovnik so reservations are strongly suggested. Our group loved everything about the dining experience at Taj Mahal. Certainly, the food was delicious, but more importantly the service was outstanding! Decor and vibe also made it special."

"First time trying Bosnian cuisine. Service was top. The staffs were very patient to explain the menu and the specials. We had the traditional dishes, and you can get a 2 or 3 dishes sampler. Food was good, but not wow. The portions were abit small though. Baklavas were not great, skippable. Reservation is recommended."

This is one of the few eateries to stay open most of the year in the Old Town, and offers a break from ubiquitous Dalmatian seafood. The kitchen turns out Bosnian specialities, with an emphasis on meat. Look out for Begović čorba (creamy chicken soup with vegetables), zeljanica (spinach and cheese filo-pastry pies), charcoal grilled kebabs, and syrupy Turkish-inspired desserts such as baklava.

Dubrovnik's Michelin Guide Restaurants
In memory of relatives in far-flung places, this restaurant’s menu and decor evoke the simple flavours and traditions of Bosnia, with a couple of pages on the menu dedicated to traditional dishes. There is a focus here on vegetables as well as grilled meats (chosen from the restaurant’s own butcher’s), while a choice of simple cocktails is available alongside the wines. Situated in the heart of the old town, the restaurant gets extremely busy so booking is recommended.
These Were My 7 Favourite Places To Eat in Dubrovnik, Croatia
You’d think in Croatia all my food picks would be, well, Croatian, but you must make time to experience some Bosnian cuisine from across the border at Taj Mahal. We had no idea what to expect, but we had a fantastic dinner served by lovely Bosnian staff so keen to show us their cuisine, paired with some frankly terrible Bosnian wine served in impossible to drink from glasses!. Honestly, they have a great G&T menu so go in that direction instead!

For all those who are in search of something that isn’t seafood-inspired, the Taj Mahal is a perfect choice. This Bosnian restaurant offers a wide range of amazing Balkan dishes, and if you are craving tasty meat dishes, don’t miss visiting this place. Those unfamiliar with Balkan cuisine and unsure where to start should try Cevapi, and those more experienced in this type of cuisine shouldn’t miss trying the restaurant's specialty “Taj Mahal”.

Taj Mahal recently received a well deserved Michelin recommendation.
The Best Meals We Ate in Croatia
Online reviews led me to the curiously named Taj Mahal, said to be one of the best Bosnian restaurants in town. We started with pepper slices covered with spicy kaymak cheese and glasses of Bosnian wine as suggested by our waiter. Next came my veal and veggie shish, although honestly the highlight was the baked potato stuffed with more of that spectacular cheese.
a pearl on the Croation coast
This is not an Indian restaurant, but one that specialises in the rather hearty dishes of neighbouring Bosnia. Take a seat in the attractive dining area or at the tables in front of the door and enjoy Cevapi (grilled minced meat sausages in flatbread), Pljeskavica (a kind of burger), baked spinach rolls, and the irresistible desserts. tajmahaldubrovnik.com

The food here is delicious, but if you aren’t careful it will blow your budget. We enjoyed sharing a cheese plate, some delicious tomato soup with homemade pasta in it, and some traditional Bosnian pies with meat and potatoes in them.
