Reviews Summary

Restaurante Silvestre offers a unique and highly artistic culinary journey through contemporary Costa Rican cuisine. Diners praise the creative dishes, immersive cultural experience, and elegant ambiance, often calling it a gastronomic delight. However, some reviews mention that while the food is good, it may not always justify the price, and occasional service details, like a lack of significant birthday acknowledgment, have been noted.

"We came for lunch on a Sunday. It was awesome! They had their "standard" 3 course menu, which our friend got, and a "surprise" 7 course menu, which we got. It was amazing! It was a tour across Costa Rica. Every course was delicious. And our server Jacob was wonderful in telling the story behind each dish (in very good English). Definitely would recommend!"

Bob Frey

"We went for lunch. Arrived around 14.30. Had the three course menu. There were two options for each course so as a couple we were able to taste everything. The service was friendly. The food was creative and delicious. Very reasonable price for three courses & drinks.

Only suggestion would be to explain more where the food comes from in Costa Rica and how it’s made."

Arjonel Luli

"I used to think that you need to die in order to get to heaven but apparently it's enough to grab an Uber and come here for a meal!! 😍 Silvestre was my best dining experience in San Jose. The lunch menu provides good value (and the beverage pairing with it is a steal) and was otherworldly good!! I regret, however, not to have come for dinner when there is a longer tasting menu available, too. Service also was fantastic and came straight from the heart, and the beautiful atmosphere complemented the perfect meal. Don't miss it if you ever come to San Jose!"

Five Places to Go in San José, Costa Rica

Choose a six-course tasting or an a la carte meal sourced from small farmers and artisanal fishermen at this contemporary Costa Rican restaurant that opened one year ago in an elegant house with a plant-filled courtyard in Barrio Amón, a neighborhood full of late 19th- and early 20th-century houses mostly built for coffee barons. Dishes, with no more than a few ingredients, range from colorful (lamb loin spruced up with silvery slivers of sardines and orange squash ribbons) to playful (“cocada de coco con coco en coco,” a caramelized coconut with roasted coconut ice cream served in a coconut half). Chef Santiago Fernandez is at the helm of this ambitious and wildly successful exploration of upscale contemporary Costa Rican cuisine. The regularly changing menus use local and organic ingredients (along with fish and meat procured through responsible means) to take diners on a journey into some of the most creative (and delicious) food Costa Rica has to offer. Many dishes also incorporate a whimiscal look into an aspect of Costa Rican history and culture, such as appetizers served under a colorful devil's mask, representing Masquerade Day, a traditional Costa Rican take on Halloween.
