Our first real taste of the town took place at Kasalta, a short walk down the road in Condado and a charming Spanish and Basque-inspired restaurant. The place was filled with a mix of locals on their lunch break and tourists getting some air conditioned relief from the heat.

After I started snapchatting away during the trip, a friend of mine suggested we go to Kasalta Bakery. I had seen it online and overlooked it, but since she recommended it, we stopped in on our way to the El Yunque Rainforest on the third day.

Kasalta Bakery offers both sweet and savory breakfasts, so you can get anything from an empanada filled with chorizo (YUM!) to a mallorca, which is a sweet bun cut in half, covered with melted cheese, and topped with sugar.

I’m always a fan of bakeries, and the one we visited (Kasalta) did not disappoint. Cases and cases of pastries, breads, sandwiches, cakes and other baked goods stretched the length of the store. How was I to choose?.
